And they did Toronto a massive favour by taking Dion's entire cap hit from them. Thank you Ottawa.
You guys got a better player than the leaves gave up for Boyle. Dahlen is a very solid prospect.
If Burrows would not come to Ottawa without an extension Ottawa should have said screw you and walked away.
It's just a shockingly dumb move on their part. No wonder their fans are staying away. They do not believe ownership really wants to win.

Well, Tuna, you are not officially in the playoffs yet, and may well not be.
If you knew you were, a guy like Burrows would help your inexperienced crew, greatly.
It's OK, It's just a thing real hockey people know.

Ya they don't have the true prospects to get this deal, done. As Tuna knows cause he has been told a million times their prospects are not prospects if they are playing in the NHL.micky107 wrote:Well, Tuna, you are not officially in the playoffs yet, and may well not be.

I'm hoping the leaves can build up that prospect pool to trade for Burrows when his contract runs out. I'm not sure though. The teams will be lining-up.Hockey Widow wrote:Ya they don't have the true prospects to get this deal, done. Ottawa was smart to lock-him-up. He is the type of guy who will get a long-term offer on July 1st-Midnight.

TSN McKenzie was rumour mongering that the leaves may take on a bloat salary deal at the deadline and use LTIR. I don't think he's looked at the ramifications, or maybe like everything else in Toronto, he enjoys his ramifications.Strangelove wrote:First of all it's "Leaves".BigTuna wrote: And the leaves aren't paying guys like Lucic or Okposo 6-7 million per.
Secondly at least Sabres/Oil get something out of Okposo/Lucic
... Leaves get nothing out of Horton/Lupul.
It's a story about nothing!![]()
Not sure what you mean here.BigTuna wrote: And LTIR does not count if they go to the cap.
If Leaves don't use Horton/Lupul LTIR to go over the cap
... they will effectively have $10.5M* less than most teams to spend on active players.
If Leaves do use Horton/Lupul LTIR to go over the cap
... they will be hit with around $5M in ELC bonuses against the cap the following year.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't... damned Leaves!
* $10.5M + $3.28M (Kessel/Gleason/Cowen) + safety room = ~ $15M below the cap.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I saw that bit. You're leaving-out how he said they'd take back futures for the salary. Boyle is 6'7, 243. He's a beast. I know you guys love your size. Size matters a lot to you.

Gotta love giving up a 2nd round pick for 20 games of Boyle during a rebuild!
They used to hold three 2nds in the 2017 draft, now they hold just one.
(whichever one ends up being worst of the three... and no 3rd-rounder this year)
That other 2nd they gave up for Mr Andersen (along with a 1st in 2016!)
Then they threw $25M at Andy!
Worst GAA among all NHL goalies and 5th-worst sv% this season (44+ gms) !
Yeah that's a lot of picks pissed away for a rebuilding "Stick to the Shanaplan" team.
If they use LTIR this year for a bloated contract + pick/prospect it's going to cost them on the future cap
... unless this is the last year of the bloated contract (and that wouldn't help the other team much).
Also, tapping into LTIR space makes it certain ELC-bonuses owed this year will be tacked onto next year's cap.
How do the Leaves always manage to find new ways to screw themselves over?
Is Lou still working for the devil?
Will we ever hear from Tuna again after his Leaves lose all 3 games on this California swing?

After all this rant, the leaves are currently in a playoff spot. If they make it they'll be the first team since the cap came in in 2005 to go from 30th overall to a playoff spot in 1 year.Strangelove wrote:Lou is no doubt ramificating him as we speak...Topper wrote: TSN McKenzie was rumour mongering that the leaves may take on a bloat salary deal at the deadline and use LTIR. Things could not possibly be going better. They have exceeded all expectations by a mile, and all their young players have turned-out better than anticipated.
If that's screwing themselves over, I'd like to know your definition of it.

HAHAHA. They're in a playoff spot. They are one of the youngest NHL teams. They have the best crop of rookies any team has had in YEARS. But it's a disaster! Going off a cliff! Time to rebuild!Strangelove wrote:And Tuna continues to blissfully zzzzzz in the back of that 18 wheeler...

Do you feel this way about other teams that are also young and not having as much success?

I see some old farts on that roster and they just added Boyle.
Some of these "rookies" are 24 and 25 years old.BigTuna wrote: They have the best crop of rookies any team has had in YEARS.
Hell, the "rookie" you call Zaitsev could be a UFA this summer...
