Re: Positive Shit
Was hoping to keep war and shit out of this thread tbh. I have to take some responsibility, there. Per posted about Sweden seizing shadow fleet tankers in the Conquest, War, Famine, and Death Thread, and I said I thought it belonged in Positive Shit. So he may have concluded there was more of a ...

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Sad that the best players on the ice were the Minnesota cast-offs. I don't think that "cast-offs" is a reasonable characterization when the players were Minnesota's 3 highest draft picks since 2020. I think that fans who hope for the Canuck re-build to yield playoff-relevant hockey in less than 6 ...

France and Finland have seized ships before, and now we've stepped up to start addressing the problem as well.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
I read an article somewhere a few weeks back where the author was questioning the Canucks medical team and player care over some number of seasons. There seems to be more of the "mystery injury" problem with this team. I don't follow the other teams close enough to see if this is a league-wide ...

Finnish president Alexander Stubb (son of the head of NHL European Scouting Göran Stubb) on Russia losing the war, Ukraine and EU expansion: https://youtu.be/fYjv36sR3YI?si=XKiSBWGIcO1tNu3K Thanks, I derive great comfort from knowing a man like that is part of the leadership group of the remaining ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
Foote will not likely be the coach when it comes time for the new core to compete, but he may be the coach that gets them there from here. Perhaps a signal from management to Foote that development takes precedence over wins, and just manage the effects of the losing will give Foote the freedom of ...

Re: Past Canuck Players
Not really a hero.
More of a statement on walking players to unrestricted free agency without either trading them or finding an adequate replacement.
Those kinds of mistakes continue to haunt the Canucks, up to and including Lindholm and Zadarov.

Re: 2026 NHL Draft
When I think of skilled "shrimps" that were impactful when games get heavier...... Datsyuk, St. Louis, Theo Fleury, Marchand, Marchessault.....it's a short list (see wot)..... And one thing most of those guys have in common is that while they are short, they aren't actually shrimps. Dionne, and if ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
I'm not usually the rose-coloured glasses guy here, but I see this as an improvement on the previous degree and type of uncertainty. 1) As long as he's out, he can't derail the tank. 2) I think a narrative of "there was a specific thing that was wrong, and the surgeons think they fixed it" is more ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft
Good Centre > Great Winger? Or do you just build a team with the best players you can, and hope they can make up for weaknesses in key positions? I can see that side too. I enjoy theoretical team composition questions. I think part of the answer depends on the kind of team you want to build, and ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft
I got a bit bored earlier and thought I'd pull some data from 20 drafts (2000-2019) to see if we can quantify pick value a bit more accurately - just the high level hockeydb stuff along with some TOI/G career averages to help assess defensemen. The analysis I should have done, but was neither ...
