Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

I read an article somewhere a few weeks back where the author was questioning the Canucks medical team and player care over some number of seasons. There seems to be more of the "mystery injury" problem with this team. I don't follow the other teams close enough to see if this is a league-wide ...

It’ll help the young’uns and hopefully snag us some extra picks for the next few years!
I think that's a great idea.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

Foote will not likely be the coach when it comes time for the new core to compete, but he may be the coach that gets them there from here. Perhaps a signal from management to Foote that development takes precedence over wins, and just manage the effects of the losing will give Foote the freedom of ...

Not really a hero.

More of a statement on walking players to unrestricted free agency without either trading them or finding an adequate replacement.

Those kinds of mistakes continue to haunt the Canucks, up to and including Lindholm and Zadarov.

Re: 2026 NHL Draft

When I think of skilled "shrimps" that were impactful when games get heavier...... Datsyuk, St. Louis, Theo Fleury, Marchand, Marchessault.....it's a short list (see wot)..... And one thing most of those guys have in common is that while they are short, they aren't actually shrimps. Dionne, and if ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26

I'm not usually the rose-coloured glasses guy here, but I see this as an improvement on the previous degree and type of uncertainty. 1) As long as he's out, he can't derail the tank. 2) I think a narrative of "there was a specific thing that was wrong, and the surgeons think they fixed it" is more ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft

Good Centre > Great Winger? Or do you just build a team with the best players you can, and hope they can make up for weaknesses in key positions? I can see that side too. I enjoy theoretical team composition questions. I think part of the answer depends on the kind of team you want to build, and ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft

I got a bit bored earlier and thought I'd pull some data from 20 drafts (2000-2019) to see if we can quantify pick value a bit more accurately - just the high level hockeydb stuff along with some TOI/G career averages to help assess defensemen. The analysis I should have done, but was neither ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft

So the Canucks have already met with Verhoeff. Telling. Given the role that character plays in draft pick development, and that personal goals play in prospects for re-signing, I'd like to see a lot more effort directed into understanding not just the talent package of the draft prospects, but also ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft

I recall the largest drop was within the first round, like driving a new car off the lot. You mention a lot of variables, but really the key is going to be drafting as high as possible as there seems to be a lot less margin of error. That's what it looked like subjectively: after the top 10 or so ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft

IMO, BPA is "Highest ceiling" combined with "Best chances of reaching their ceiling" instead of "Highest floor". I think that's a perfectly sensible definition, but then you have to address the relative weighting of the two factors. For example, would you prefer (supposing that both the ...

Re: 2026 NHL Draft

Several years ago I did an analysis of odds of a draft player playing , I believe 250 or 300 NHL games and after the top ten of the 1st round it becomes a bit of a crap shoot with odds significantly decreasing the later in the draft you go. So then finding core players relies on not just ...
