He'll never skate like Hronek, Meyers or MPete

Think I'm going off the board or will stay safely on the fence. Honestly too small sample to get a good feel of what his career might look like, but to be fast-tracked at this stage being too good for AHL and comfortable in the NHL is a good sign.

The bottom three options there we've seen enough of to compare in the Desharnais, the Juulsens, Branstromm, Friedman, Brisbois, on and on. Safe to say DP's already way past that, so as long as there's no drop think it's safe to scratch those options off the list. The only fear is the drop, which can be a possibility. But if what we've seen so far is the floor, it's already the best option for ceiling on the list.

2nd pair with the right partner. 3rd pair with the wrong partner.

That option wasn't available so I will abstain.

#5 D with ability to do spot duty on the 2nd pair.

Isn’t he already on the third pairing? There are no upside options on the poll.
He’s already been paired with Hronek in the top four when Hughes was out.
At 21, he has a lot more upside as he learns the league.
I can see him making it into the top four as an excellent penalty killer as he matures, maybe playing a roll like Rasmussen Anderson.

His mobility is suspect. North-South he has adequate skating for a 2nd pair defender. Topper (if you’ve been reading) is particularly concerned with his turns when he can’t control the gap against speedy attackers. He has shown good positioning and decent puck movement. However, mobility is make or break for top-4 defensemen.

If the turns don’t improve he will be a smart and steady 3rd pair guy who spots up into the #4 spot when required. A Swedish Luke Schenn Lite.

We wanted Brayden Schneider, ep25 is already as good and will likely improve further. He's already got a terrific first step, the confidence and ability to skate his way out of trouble. He makes safe outlets, sticks up for teammates...what's not to like? The odd time he can get burned by speed? Name one NHL defenseman in the history of developing prospects that hasn't gone through the same...usually a couple years older than the kid is now.

Seeing as he's still basically a kid I'd say solid 2nd pairing once he gains his man strength.

I think he is decent 3rd pairing right now with the potential to be a decent 2nd pairing. Probably will end up being a solid 3rd pairing that can play up the line up when needed.

Some one else compared him to Luke Schenn and that is probably a good comparison.

As long as we have Hughes and M Pettersson then it is safe to say he will likely get third pairing minutes and responsibility. In 5 years he should be good to take over for M Pettersson as a second pairing Dman, sooner if MP falls off.

I think he has the tools to be a second pairing guy down the road but the sample is small and he is still learning the game at the NHL level. I'd like to see him beef up a bit more.

But hey, maybe there is enough there to use him as bait plus to land a top 6 centre.

I'm in complete agreement with this.

I think Topper's premise is flawed because it assumes players can not improve their deficiencies or learn to live with them and adapt. I'd pencil him (#25) in with Forbort and whoever the fuck for 3rd pair duty on the LS next year. I think after 2028 will be the time we kind of have to make an uncomfortable decision with Metey. And probably lose the trade.

I'd be happy if he can become half of Edler

Its hard to say this early if he will be productive offensively. To be half of Edler he would have to improve in that area. One thing for sure if his good play continues it will be nice to have an ELC back there. I'd like to see Forbert back for 2-3 years at a reasonable deal as well. He is one of the mainstays on a very good PK.

The other ELC next year will probably be Mancini although they will have decisions to make on McWard. I think Willander, unless he blows everyone away, is destined to Abbotsford after burning a year on his ELC this year. So having 2 ELC on D plus an affordable Forbert will go a long way towards cap management.

I don't see DPetey being in the top 4 unless we have injuries. Perhaps in some games as game management depending upon how everyone is playing game to game. That doesn't mean I see that as his potential just the reality of the pecking order on the left side.
