Vancouver Canucks defenceman Quinn Hughes has become the 3rd fastest defenceman in NHL history to record 300 assists!
1. Robert Orr - 346 games
2. Brian Leetch - 368 games
3. Quinn Hughes - 376 games
4. Paul Coffey - 377 games
5. Gary Suter - 400 games
I think this is a huge accomplishment, especially when you consider he beat out Coffey who had Gretzky to feed. (Fuck Leech, he's a ranger).
Orr is a legend, so Hughes is in great company.
It's so nice to see our players up with the greats, not just setting 'franchise' records.

I’d say the accomplishment is also that he did it in an era where goalies stop more picks and individual points are harder to come by than they were during Orr and Leetch’s respective days.

Orr got to that record in 70-71 (102a), which was also Esposito's breakout 76g, 76a season. Ken Hodge and Johnny Buyck each had over 100 points. So yeah, Orr had some good help. Of course, Hughes benefited from last year's great season but you compare them to that Bruins team.
