The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

So Trump has paused his tariff war for 90 days. This affects all countries that did not retaliate. In the case of China, tariffs remain at 125 percent. The other country that retaliated is Canada...
Why is it wearing on you Megs? You have been pretty much a Trump dude from the start, no? I couldn't care less. It's certainly fractured this place (not you of course) but it's fascinating to see all the Canadians throw their support behind Orange Man. To each their own. I doubt their lives will be affected other than to lick their lips when it hurts someone else.
People got what they asked for with this maniac back in power.
And their answer is to crush a Canadian govt, that dares to speak up. Two separate entities to most normal folks but its hilarious to see the orange puppets bash their own country and support a dictator that has no impact on their life. Like fan boys.

Yeah, I thought Trump was the superior choice head to head with Kamala Harris. It wasn't a great field, it never is. Did you know he was going to embark on this crazy tariff policy? I didn't, and I don't know anyone else who did. I was interested in walking back from the brink of WW3 and at least Trump was showing some interest in that area.
I mean, it would be great if Bobby Kennedy or Jill Stein could be president, but it isn't happening. But yeah, adjustments right I guess I'm just not one of those men who believes tomorrow what he believed yesterday. No matter what happened today.
Now you have to wonder what happens to the temporary tax cuts which the administration wants to make permanent and other spending which is expected to be higher than what it was under Biden? So much for DOGE..
Trump needs the revenue from the tariffs he has now paused to partially pay for everything ...
And while the administration wants to talk about all of the countries who want to make a deal with the US, are Americans that naive to not realize that those countries are also looking to other trading partners given how easily the Americans took a bazooka to their economies without batting an eye?
Wonder how accurate that think tank is when they suggested that 70 countries could replace all of their American trade with other countries within 12 months and another 115 withing 5 years?...

So Hegseth has said eight percent in budget cuts each year for the next five years. Massive. Eclipses anything Elon is doing.
Scratch that. Reversing course with a record $1T in defense spending.
They will start an investigation into possible insider trading. First Trump announced the tariffs, causing the stock market to fall sharply. Then he tweeted "this is a great time to buy" before four hours later halting the tariffs, causing the stock market to soar.
What people in his immediate surroundings knew of this beforehand and did any of them profit from the turbulence?
On Wednesday, Schiff pointed to a statement that Trump posted to social media hours before he announced his 90-day tariff pause. "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT," Trump wrote on Truth Social minutes after the markets opened.
Responding to the post, Schiff said in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter: "So the question is between that tweet and Donald Trump's announcement that he was reducing the tariffs on most other nations apart from China, the question is who knew what the President was gonna do and did people around the president trade stock knowing the incredible gyration the market was about to go through?"

The Washington Post reports that IRS insiders are expecting a $500B shortfall in tax revenues this year due to people not filing tax returns. You can bet those people are on the wealthy side who have to remit tax payments, not the salary/wage employees who have tax deducted at source.
Musk is obviously incredibly intelligent, so it's puzzling why he is wanting to chop 20% of the IRS staff. It's known that even at current staffing levels, adding more staff brings in more revenue than it costs. It actually pays to hire staff to audit corporations and wealthy individuals. D'ohGE.
