Interesting revelation in the article about the Canadian who spent 2 weeks in ICE detention facilities...

The private companies contracted to aprehend illegals is paid per detention, one of the companies made over $560 million in 2024 and the other over $763 million...

My guess is that they have a minimum detention period before they can count them as an aprehension and paid which is why our Canadian was moved to various facilities while being kept in the dark before her realease...

The challenge removing illegals brings is that you are also removing a significant part of your economy ...All of that cheap labour is leaving the country and in its place Florida is tying to change child labour laws to allow 13 and 14 years to go to work...

Makes sense to me...get rid of non criminals who contribute more to the economy than many American citizens do creating a vacuum of low cost workers so they ask parents to send their children out to work in their place....

Now they are detaining tourists with valid visas over social media posts that criticize the Trump administration or for other equally inane reasons. The border guards may demand you open your phone for them, and if the thought police don’t like what you have posted online they may detain or deport you. What happened to rule of law, freedom of speech, habeas corpus and personal integrity?

It’s just like when you visited the Soviet Union back in the day. Except, we didn’t have cell phones then.

More and more countries are issuing warnings to their citizens about visiting the US.

My guess is that the private companies hired to aprehend illegals have to hold them for a minimum period of time before they can bill the government which could explain the German's and our Canadiens experiences...
