Calgary Flames
@NHLFlames
#Flames Training Camp Update: Defenceman Andrew MacDonald will attend camp on a professional try-out agreement.
MacDonald spent the past six seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers registering 11 goals, and 72 points in 291 games. The Flyers bought out the last year of the 32-year-old’s contract to make him a free agent after playing only 47 games last season.

Philadelphia acquired MacDonald back in 2014 from the New York Islanders and signed him to a six-year, $30 million.
Calgary has been looking for defensive depth after Juuso Valimaki sustained a torn ACL in his right knee during a training session.

Per @IIHFHockey Russian forward Yevgeni Kuznetsov has received a 4-year suspension from the IIHF after testing positive for a banned substance at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

The NHL and the Caps are investigating. His IIHF suspension does not affect his status in the NHL. He denies taking cocain but also declined to have his B sample tested. The Russian Ice Hockey Federation is like oh well. Kuznetsov is like I never knowingly have done illegal drugs. Hmmmmmmm, could it be.......naw

Facts.
NHL's Evgeny Kuznetsov Tests Positive For Cocaine.

Here's the deal ... back in May, the footage surfaced on social media showing Evgeny in a room with a woman with white lines on a table next to a rolled up dollar bill.

27-year-old Evgeny addressed the video at the time and insisted he had NEVER taken illegal drugs -- and neither the NHL nor the Washington Capitals took action.

But, the International Ice Hockey Federation -- which oversees everything from the Olympics to the World Championships -- does things a bit differently and on Friday they slapped Evgeny with a 4-YEAR SUSPENSION after the positive coke test.

In other words, he can't represent his home country, Russia, in international tournaments until 2023.

So, how will this affect his NHL career? It won't.

The NHL put out a statement saying, "Unlike the IIHF, cocaine is not considered a performance enhancing drug and is therefore not a Prohibited Substance under the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program."

"Instead, it is considered a drug of abuse that is tested for and for which intervention, evaluation and mandatory treatment can occur in appropriate cases."

"Here, we understand that Mr. Kuznetsov has voluntarily sought help through the education and counseling program provided for in the NHL and NHLPA collective bargaining agreement and has agreed to a regular testing protocol relating to his involvement with that program."

Evgeny will also meet with NHL Commish Gary Bettman to discuss his behavior.

well no aha, I believe they don't consider it a banned substance per se, it's viewed like alcohol, if you gotta problem with it the league can put you through their rehab program stages.....the NHL is way more lenient on illegal drugs versus every other major pro sports leagues.

USA has a policy of revoking visas of anyone who admits using illegal drugs.

Shouldn't this happen to Kuznetsov then... no more games in America?

Can anyone think of an NHLer admitting to using a banned substance and continuing to play in the NHL.

Kuz I can't.

I dunno, just thinking out loud here...
