This is a great speech by the Finnish president, Alexander Stubb, which he held when visiting Kyiv earlier this week on the day that marked three years since the Russian invasion began. It’s only eight and a half minutes.
Listen to it and you may get an understanding of how we Europeans see this as an existential crisis. This is not just about Ukraine it is about the future of Europe, the future of Western Civilization and the future of a rules based world order. And it is personal for most of us.

He is a conservative, but a traditional conservative, the kind that still has core values.

There is mounting evidence that DT is an active Russian asset. His actions support this.

Quite the stark difference of treatment at the Oval Office for Netanyahu back on February 4th. Back to casualties of war, the sheer numbers - 1,706 Israelites have been killed in the war in Gaza.

Well, the KGB was known to subscribe to the philosophy that America was too strong to conquer from without and would have to be eroded from within by influencing the nation at the voter level.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 11:18 am There is mounting evidence that DT is an active Russian asset. I heard a long, long time ago from a financier who does a lot of business with financial institutions in New York that institutions in America stopped financing Trump and his business ventures a long time ago due to his long history of seeing his business ventures go bankrupt and not honouring his debt. Rikster is spot on. Which is why most of his backing came from over seas specifically Russia. What did Warren Buffet say about Trump. “He only makes money trademarking his name - Trump Towers.” He even sold his name for that hotel/office in Vancouver on Georgia street, which is no longer, btw. Name was removed.
It’s very plausible that Russia owns Trump, and this is how he is repaying his debt - backing out of Ukraine. Trump seems to be finally honouring his debts.

European (and other) leaders are showing their support for Zelensky and Ukraine following the ambush in the Oval Office:
- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: "Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, dear President. We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace."
- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer: "You have full backing across the United Kingdom. We stand with you and Ukraine for as long as it may take."

- Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen: “Dear Zelensky, Denmark proudly stands with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.”
- French President Emmanual Macron: “There is an aggressor: Russia. There is a people being aggressed: Ukraine. We were all right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago and to continue doing so. We, that’s the Americans, the Europeans, Canadians, Japanese, and many others... Because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, for their children, and for the security of Europe.”
- President of Moldova Maia Sandu: “The truth is simple. Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine defends its freedom—and ours. We stand with Ukraine.”

- Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal: “We stand united with Zelenskyy and Ukraine in our fight for freedom. Always. Because it is right, not easy.”

- the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas: ”Ukraine is Europe! We stand by Ukraine. We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the aggressor. Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”
- Romania’s interim President Ilie Bolojan: “The security of Ukraine is crucial for the security of Europe. We all need to stand together to fight for our values, freedom, and peace.”
- Austria’s caretaker Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg reaffirmed his support for Ukraine, while the country’s foreign ministry declared: “Russia is the aggressor and we share Ukraine’s commitment to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace!”
- Belgium’s Prime Minister Bart De Wever: “We stand behind Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in their historic fight to defend themselves against an unprovoked Russian aggression. Their fight is our fight. United we are strong.”

- Canadian Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre: ”As Leader of Canada’s common sense Conservatives, I have always been clear, we stand with Ukraine in its defence against Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion. I also firmly believe that the future of Ukraine must be determined by the Ukrainian people. Conservatives will always stand on the side of freedom and democracy.”

If Trump is a Russian plant then that's bad. (Duh)
However, most of what he is doing is pulling American support from the global situation. He has said since the campaign trail that America needs to stop being the World's police force and stop spending money to support nations that don't want to invest in their own protection. That's a good thing. An independently strong Europe, so long as they are not hostile towards the US, is a good thing for America. A strong Canada, same story. Combine those two things and you have a strong NATO even without the US. If the NATO members all invest like they should, then America staying makes it an alliance that the rest of the world basically gets told: Fuck around and find out.

This is where the problem is - he has done some good things since coming into office. Then there are the things that are just unacceptable, including his tariff war on his closest allies and his support for Putin against the Ukraine. He wanted the Ukraine to sign a mineral deal without giving the Ukrainians any security guarantees. I'm glad the mineral deal fell through. Now if Europe can continue to provide support and possibly increase it, maybe they can outlast Russia who are running out of equipment. No one wants war, but the Ukrainians have fought way too hard and have lost far too many people in this conflict to quit now without any security guarantees.
The USA is turning on all it's allies and will eventually isolate themselves from the rest of the world.
