Trump is still pissy that Zed didn’t go full-on prosecution against Biden JR. Whatever his real intentions or goals are, the net effect is that the rest of the democratic world is finally re-arming and starting to get properly prepared to defend themselves. The long term effect will be that the USA will have less influence, and the rest of NATO, Australia Japan and S Korea will have increased influence and capability. Still, Trump is doing it in the shittiest way possible.

Does anyone else think that Canada should close the St Lawrence to American shipping? Or, just make sure every single ship is searched for fentanyl. A thorough search could take up to 4 years.

I also don't think what happened in the Oval office is anything but a step towards an agreement..At the end of the day Trump and Vance had/have an opportunity to make whole their countries contribution to the defence of Ukraine which is something Trump wants/needs to brag about and is looking at these peace talks as a legacy....
In addition, while Musk and DOGE are claiming billions of dollars in savings the actual amount is a fraction of that amount and it is already hiring back many of the workers it terminated to come up with their $ savings...
So walking away from billions of dollars from the Ukraines in the form of a rare earth mineral agreement is a mistake on a number of fronts..badly needed revenue to help finance the record spending that Trump wants to make and a commodity that is badly needed....
If Trump doesn't find a way to save grace and close this deal, it will be used as ammunition for the opposition which will haunt the Republicans for a number of elections cycles...
He promised to end the war on Day 1, not only did he not end the war it took the Europeans to end it, but he also had an opportunity to bring in far more revenue than DOGE has been able to cut and provide the American military and high tech industry minerals that they badly need ...

Russiagate has been debunked and I'm surprrised that there are still people that buy into it. The rare earth minerals are a fugazi as far as I'm concerned. If it was economically viable they would have been exploited years ago and what there is of them is mostly in Russian controlled areas anyway. 60-70 percent of all Ukrainian resources in fact are in Russian held areas of Eastern Ukraine so the access just won't be there post war. BTW Canada has more rare earth than any country in the world including US and Russia. The Europeans have made many individual minral deals, I was just reading the list of security guaranties and resource agreements hatched between Ukraine and various European states (28 in all) and I expect nothing to come of them.
Not sure what you mean by the Europeans ending the war, they have been the driving force behind trying to prolong it and are currently having a fit about Trump's efforts to bring it to a close. Notice Donald Trump is the only world lkeader that ever mentions the awful death toll and the sheer carnage of this war. I think people will be shocked and horrified whe the final casualty numbers are revealed. The Western media has done an effexctive job of hiding it from the public so far but with the shift in policy now it's only a matter of time before the truth comes out. The idea that this Blinken/Nuland proxy war is going to haunt the Republicans in someway doesn't make sense to me, this is not Donald Trump's war, he's just doing what he can to end it. Rest assured that it would be full speed ahead with the war had Kamala Harris won the election.

It's harder to find reliable estimates of Ukrainian KIAs; estimates are all over the map but you can probably assume given the way Zelensky and his American and British have conducted the war and the disparity in firepower that it's at least a 3-1 ratio and probably worse. But again, we will soon see I think and I eaer it's going to be pretty terrible.

I didn't bother reading the Mueller Report but it hasd been widely reported that it found no real evidence of Russian collusion.
What it found was that the Russians had interfered in the elections in a major way as evidenced by the number of indicted, convicted or guilty pleas obtained from 34 people and three companies, including top advisers to President Trump, Russian spies and hackers with ties to the Kremlin.
It found no evidence of collusion, although it was unable to speak to a number of witnesses.
It found that save for being a sitting President it would have moved forward on obstruction of justice charges and took the position that it was up to the politicians to do so...
For the purpose of my point, it is irrelevant if Trump colluded with the Russians the fact remains that they attempted to influence the outcome for someone who had done business with them for a number of years and given a choice between Zelensky or Putin, Trumps choice is as easy as the one facing Canada this election....

I can believe there was some Russian meddling in that election, there probably always is. I would say though the the Americans themselves are the true masters in election interference. US AID and NED are two of the main vehicles for this, they are basically slush funds for the CIA to meddle in the politics of foreign countries.

It was rather major. They hacked Hillary’s computer, remember? Then used that information against her. They did it cleverly too; just releasing snippets at a time, through Julian Assange to make it seem more legit than if it came straight from Russia, and that way they could keep stabbing at her throughout the election process.
I still don’t get how they got Mueller to reopen the case against her just two weeks before the election though. Did they threaten his family? Because that was a clear breech of FBI protocol. Someone should look into that.
But yeah, even though there was plenty of evidence of Russian election interference, aimed at undermining Hillary, they had zero proof of collusion. It may just have been a happy coincidence for Trump that his major money lender happened to hate Hillary.
I don’t really believe the rumour that the KGB recruited him in 1987. What purpose could they have seen for him back then?
And with so many former KGB agents leaving Russia after the breakup of the Soviet Union, I think we should have found out sooner.
If they really did, I’m impressed. Way to play the long game! In that case they are smarter than I give them credit for.
