The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman
Pierre-Olivier Joseph to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
If it hadn't been for P.O. Joe
We'd been playing Victor Man-O a long time ago
Where did you come from, where did you go?
Where did you come from, P.O. Joe?
He came to town like a midwinter storm
He rode through the fields, so handsome and strong
His eyes was his tools and his smile was his gun
But all he had come for was having some fun

Pius signs in St. Louis. 2 years, $4M AAV. Guess Allvin couldn't clear the space.
It is an excellent fit for the player and the Blues, IMO. Doesn't seem like a "win" for Suter financially; I would have thought at that AAV he could have gotten more term, but maybe he is betting on himself. If he scores more that 20 each of the next two seasons, he'll get a raise.
You'd have to think he was offered that from Vancouver before free agency, no?
That's pretty good money for what he brings to the table. It seems like a good fit.
I have no idea how they would have fit that under the cap here; it would have taken some maneuvering.
Buy out Chytyl. They can easily free up space by trading Hoglander and Joshua for a pick.

Just looked it up, it is not bad.

Yeah, I've mentioned this before, both Chytyl and the Hog are cheap buyouts due to their age...

Hate buy outs and then watching bought out player winning Stanley Cups while Canucks pay part of salary.
Screw buying out anyone. Play Chytil until he breaks (hopefully he doesn’t) and then use his LTIR space to pay a replacement.

At some point we have to see what we have in Raty. This is the year to let him prove himself. A centre may come free into the season. Maybe not. But lets not rush it.

HW, if you listen to the media 2/3 of league are looking for a #2 C. A trade will be damn expensive and any UFA will damn expensive for the foreseeable future.
Canucks are best to do nothing and hope Cootes continues to develop.

Cootes is projected to be 4 years away.....that doesn't bode well for the current roster construction.

You're not wrong about the market for 2C-calibre forwards. Anybody seeing Florida these playoffs is no doubt looking at their centre depth with a view to improving the top of their order. Likely why Guerin is still holding out with Rossi.
I don't see a lot of scope for management to improve the 2C spot between now and this time next year. I think we'd just be happy with Petey returning to form. That said, nobody is seriously expecting a Cup or a deep run from this team next year even if they stay healthy, players return to 23-24 season form and a rookie or two gets mentioned in Calder trophy conversations. Playoffs certainly, but not more than that. Even so, that should be enough to give Quinn confidence to extend in Vancouver - in case his confidence truly was shaken by last year.
Raty should be seeing 3C duty and, hopefully, he rises to the occasion to show he belongs there moving forward.
Never say never, but outside of moving Silovs and perhaps another contract to free up breathing room against the cap, this is the roster for next season. That's not what some of us hoped; it's not great; but it's not bad - or as bad as some of us feared some weeks ago.

Fake news - Cootes is two months away - the next 18 year old Trevor Linden….I hope.

I'd go with three. By that time Raty will either have solidified his spot in the middle of the depth chart and challenge Cootes for the 3C spot, or he will have been dealt or gone as a FA.
I don't think anyone is counting on Cootes to be a 2C any time soon - if ever.

I would have liked him back at that cap hit. Way better than the $4.95 × 4 floated by the media. Stay healthy, Heatle.
