Quinn was hand picked by Tocchet for his leadership skills. Ricky may have his flaws, but leadership was never one of them.
You have a source for that? Tocchet had a voice, no doubt, but never heard that Hughes was his ‘hand-picked’ choice for Captains - to the exclusion of other possibilities to consider.
As far as I know, it was as much if not more management’s decision vice the coach.

Google is your friend.
Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet went one better.
“You know you’ve made a great decision with how excited the guys are because it could have easily been one of them (captain), and Quinn knows that,” said Tocchet. “I was impressed when I came in with Hughes and his love of the game and how he mixes with everybody.

“He’ll say uncomfortable things that have to be said and he’s not afraid to say something to me — that was important. He has all the qualities and is still learning, which is great, because he’s going to need support from all of us.”
"What I was impressed with Hughes was last year when I came in, just his love for the game, how his teammates, he mixes with everybody," Tocchet said. "I think that as a captain, you mix in with everybody. He said some uncomfortable things that he had to say if something didn't go well, or if he had to even put himself out there. That's why I really liked this leadership. They're not afraid to say something to me. That was important to me making that decision."
Pretty selective interpretation of ‘you’ there, when in context most readers would interpret the word as a corporate term encompassing the organization, instead of implying that the decision was his. But hey, free world and all.
So Quit mixed with everybody and said some uncomfortable things. I guess in Millenial or Gen A terms that’s the equivalent of somewhere between Mark Messier and Steve Yzerman, but no one else’s. If mixing with everybody and saying uncomfortable things to people is all it takes…

Lancer is painting himself into a corner of bitterness.
Pretty crowded with the rest of you miserable sods. Just a different colour of paint.
It’s not crowded at all.
There’s more than one corner at this here Corner…..we all just wander towards the middle to converse.
I do think that you’re rather alone in your particular Quit Hughes corner, so don’t worry about space dude.
Less space than you would hope, if the last page or so would indicate, but whatever truths you want to hold to…
Fact of the matter is we’re all fucking jaded at this team, it’s players and the whole organization. The way it’s gone, nobody should come out of this clean. You bitch and moan about the dickless Swede. We bitched and moaned about the head-case that was/is Miller. We bitched and moaned about Demko the fragile flake.
Funny thing about them all? None of them proactively asked out of Vancouver.
Except Hughes. Yet somehow, he gets painted as the Christlike figure by many here in this shit-show Passion Play.
I’m just calling that BS. He deserves no credit here. He was a shit captain and deserves his due blame for his role in all this.

Pretty sure Rutherford said JT asked for a trade after taking some personal time.
Also, Quinn didn’t ask out. He never asked for a trade. He simply told the organization that he was not going to sign another contract in Vancouver. While some may argue that that was akin to saying trade me, I call bullshit. He could have simply said nothing or led everyone on until July 1st of 2027…..the team traded him to maximize the return because he wasn’t committing ANYWHERE. He didn’t commit to Minny, he said it would be something he would consider but not until he tested the waters.
He had no trade protection. There were 31 teams that Vancouver could have negotiated with. Only Detroit and Minnesota were rumoured to be serious players, where were the other 29 teams? Not coming to the table because Hughes sounds like he actually wants to wait and test the market, only Guérin was willing to pony up a package that even made a little bit of sense in the face of no commitment from Hughes.
He would have played out his contract here.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Careful with your collective "we".
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

You asked me for a link, I gave you two, you don't believe what was quoted in those links.
Your continued failure of simple reading comprehension is duly noted.
You mean you cherry-picked; I questioned your interpretation of it and its weight regarding Hughes as captain; and you asked me for a link related to my analysis of your quote.
Not that hard.
Your continued failure at simple debating structure is duly-noted.
