I was shocked he turned down that offer. Man thats 7 million per. But I guess there are still a few teams around with the cap space to give him more.

You questioning her shockedness....or the turn down?Strangelove wrote:Allegedly.Hockey Widow wrote: I was shocked he turned down that offer.
I'll be surprised if any of them actually do offer him more than that.Hockey Widow wrote:I was shocked he turned down that offer. Man thats 7 million per. But I guess there are still a few teams around with the cap space to give him more.
Such leadership.Hockey Widow wrote:Messier issues terse statement cutting all tie with the NYR. Feels snubbed that he didn't get the coaching job.
I have a feeling that it's not about the money. I've read in a couple of places that Letang feels personally slighted by the organization for apparently being made a scapegoat for their playoff failures this year - or something to that effect. Suffice it to say that there's some bad blood between his camp and the organization that dollars apparently won't fix.Mëds wrote:I'll be surprised if any of them actually do offer him more than that.Hockey Widow wrote:I was shocked he turned down that offer. Toronto would be the only one, but only if they move Phaneuf. Letang is better offensively than the Laughs neanderthal captain, and he's at least as good when it comes to responsible positioning on defense. He's nowhere near the physical presence that Phaneuf is though. He gets caught jumping into the offense on occasion, maybe a little more often than Dione, but he doesn't take himself out of position chasing a big hit.
I had the same thought. Our top 4 as currently composed does not play nicely together ... something has to change. Swapping out a lefty for a righty would be the answer. Hamhuis-Bieksa JG-Letang. Done. Get rid of Lou and Ballard and I believe the cap room works.Strangelove wrote: Naw, if you're gonna entertain Letang fantasies you're gonna hafta give em Edler.
Makes more sense for BOTH teams.

Terrific offensively, pretty meh defensively and not very physical. And it doesn't hurt your point totals playing with Crosby, Malkin and Neal on that first unit PP.
This is the sort of thing that gets trophies named after you.Topper wrote:Such leadership.Hockey Widow wrote:Messier issues terse statement cutting all tie with the NYR. Feels snubbed that he didn't get the coaching job.
Provided he stays healthy, he'll likely earn every buck. Probably the last year for him, though. Ottawa better start grooming themselves for life post-Alfredsson, and post-Spezza not too long after that. Having said that, they're youngsters did look promising in the playoffs. We'll see if that was a blip.herb wrote:40 year old Daniel Alfredsson is coming back for another year.
Like to see him try that with Subban nowadays.BurningBeard wrote:This is the sort of thing that gets trophies named after you.Topper wrote:Such leadership.Hockey Widow wrote:Messier issues terse statement cutting all tie with the NYR. Feels snubbed that he didn't get the coaching job.

Who knows if this is his last year. He’s been doing this song and dance about retiring for a few off seasons now. Provided he stays healthy and doesn’t have any further major injuries, I suspect he’ll keep playing until he can’t keep up.Lancer wrote:Provided he stays healthy, he'll likely earn every buck.
