I don't think he's a fussy guy like that.

I do think it's disgraceful that these guys shit the bed to the point where we lost this kid. He was one in a million.

Sounds more like a passenger than a leader, to me. Doesn’t want to point fingers… maybe because a couple would get pointed his way?? He speaks of the Miller-Pettersson fiasco like there was nothing he could have done - spoken like a champion team captain, there. What did he not do that he could have done to keep the core from exploding?? If management was bending over backwards, where was his voice in trading Miller? You think management didn’t talk to him at any point? Management is responsible for where the team is now, but Quit’s hands are far from clean in an honest post-mortem.

He was always committed to playing his best - no matter where or for whom. That was never in question.

He just didn’t commit to Vancouver.

Lancer you really have an axe to grind.

Did Quin run over your dog with his car or something?

He presided over this car-wreck as team captain, along with coaching and management. He’s partly to blame for the current state of affairs.

I’ll credit his performance on the ice. Arguably, the best player this club has ever had. Some magic was made by him in that uniform.

His character???

I dunno, I think Minny is like the WCE teams, not good enuff down the middle (centre ice men). I thought the Wild should have went after his bud, Millzy to help them out there.

Even with Huggy there, not sure they have what it takes to make a serious run the playoffs. My money is he will sign elsewhere and I would bet with his bros.

Word is he is reluctant to sign with NJD because it will take ice away from his brother. But I do think he won’t be rushed. Minny has a very good team but I don’t see them as a Cup team. I think the playoffs will go along way to decking if he will stay or not. Front money is, if not Minny, Detroit.

Minny could trade him to Detroit after July 1st if he makes a commitment to the team and try to recoup what they traded to get him. So if he is reluctant to extend this summer you could the drama play out all next season u til TDD. Minny will not want to risk losing him for nothing.

But as I said, it will depend upon how the playoffs go. I do t tho k he will care if he can get an 8 year deal as he will get paid no matter the term.

Captains don’t preside over this sort of thing. That’s obtuse.

Judging his character is comical. You don’t know him at all.

You sound petty.

So Messier had no hand in the demise of the post-94 Canucks? You think the twins had no impact on the construction of the core that went to the Finals? To say a team captain has no role in the development or destruction of a core is more obtuse. A leader owns it; he didn’t; he quit. If he didn’t want the responsibility, or didn’t have the makeup, he should have declined. He took the C, so he takes the shit along with the glory.

His character, as captain and face of the franchise, was wanting. You can call that unfair, but that’s the life of people like him: they get the adulation on the same pedestal to which we elevate them - even higher when they take on the role of team captain.

To call him blameless in all this is rose-coloured glasses in light of his stellar play and just as obtuse. Management and that dickless fuck of a Swede carry the lion’s share of blame, but Quit is no hero in this story, certainly no victim, and only so sympathetic a figure.

You can call that whatever you like. I call it accountability.

I think that explains things.

You made him a god in your mind and you see the demise of this team as a failure that he should have been able to prevent. Quin could no more control the actions of other men than you can control the actions of your fellow posters here.

The mods here have more power to effect change on this here message board than Quin did on the Canucks.

I was wrong. It's not petty, it's naive.

He is too easy to blame everyone and everything around him. Talks about how well he played, leaving everything out there and has no regrets about his play. Both he and Jack come across as arrogant, entitled boys. To be sure they are great hockey players and a little swagger is fine. He is also one of the best, if not the best to dawn a Canucks jersey. No one takes that away from him. But his reluctance to take ownership of his team and the team results speaks volumes.

None of us really know what went on in the dressing room but the thing we know is that he was the captain. Things just didn't happen. There were personalities involved of which he was one, the captain one. Why not eat some humble pie and say all the good things about himself but owning that it was his team. He failed as a leader and succeeded tremendously as a hockey player.

Her certainly made it sound like the decision to keep Pettersson was the wrong one without even mentioning his name. The blame game. The team certainly reached out to him a few times, one before they hired Foote. You dont think he had a voice in the organization? Use it ffs. Dont come out and say things happened but he stands by his play. In other words, it was everybody else. Just STF up if that is all you are going to say. He sold the team out. Ya, I don't like arrogant self entitled little boys who dont think their shit can stink.

Great player, but he’s the first Canuck captain to force his way out of town while wearing the C.
He quit the team when it was in last place.
He ranks high as a hockey player in Canuck’s history but very low as a leader.

My rank order of all the Canuck captains:

Henrik Sedin
Trevor Linden
Stan Smyl
Orland Kurtenbach
Bo Horvat
Markus Naslund
André Boudrias
Don Lever
Doug Lidster
Kevin McCarthy
Chris Oddleifson
Roberto Luongo
Gary Doak
Dan Quinn
Quinn Hughes
Mark Messier
