Zero advantage, and actually a hinderance, as has been discussed in some posts above.

You usually have to attach an asset to unload LTIR contracts on a team with loads of cap space.

A poorer team trying to reach the cap floor is ideal.

There is one time it’s useful for a team like that.

When they have a roster player (Player A) that they want to keep who on LTIR and is about to return but they don’t have space. In that case offering them $2.5M in LTIR room in exchange for a roster player (Player B) they are willing to part with. So in this case Player B’s cap hit out + Poolman LTIR in lets them activate Player A.

Now, a team would have had to have been doing a piss poor job of cap and asset management to land themselves in a situation where a rival GM could leverage them that way.

Yeahno, that doesn't work at all Mëds lol.

The team in question would be better off trading Player B elsewhere for a draft pick.

Also, we wouldn't have the cap room to bring in Player B if Poolman were on LTIR.

(we'd already be spending to the cap)

The Poolman scenario was just in keeping with what we were talking about. Obviously it doesn’t work for us.

Butt seriously, I think we have some flexibility to upgrade our depth further into the season. Just got to wait and see what we have in-house and what's available.

Apparently, he’s a bit of a headcase. The coaches in a Anaheim are pretty frustrated with him from what I understand. Seems to not really understand the “team” concept. Selfish.
