What if Pettersson can't find the chemistry with anyone else, or at least not to the same degree.
That is bullshit.
Pettersson had fantastic chemistry with Dahlén in Timrå. Everyone was extatic about that dynamic duo (and that backstory is probably why the Canucks decided to get both...).
Then they went their seperate ways, and
without his best buddy, Petey obliterated the scoring record set by Kent Nilsson in the 1970’s for an under 20 player in the SHL, won the league scoring title and was named league MVP as well as playoffs MVP as his team won the Swedish championship. He was then invited to play in the world championship, where Sweden won gold.
Then he crossed the Atlantic, came to completely new surroundings and a different sized rink, not a single player he knew, and he broke the franchise rookie scoring record set by Bure.
And you worry ”what if Boeser is the only winger he can play with....”
Seriously. That is bullshit.

I'm not gonna listen to it, can you summarize what the pertinent point is? Did Hankinson say what their ask was on a long-term deal?

I see I don't belong here now.
That is bullshit.
...
I'm the only one that thinks locking this guy up long term was a better plan.
UMMM.
A bunch of us said many times that we'd love to have him at 8X8.
But it takes two to tango.
The new philosophy among star players for 2nd contracts:
"We want short term unless we get ridiculous dollars."
It's easy for you to say "lock this guy up long term"
... when you don't know what the other side was saying.
What if they were demanding $9.5M AAV to go 8 years?
What if they just didn't want to go long-term because
they know what you know:
Boeser is going to but up much bigger and better numbers going forward.
Do you think if you were the GM you'd
trick Brock + agent into giving you a smoking deal?
Yeah, it doesn't work that way buddy, great value 2nd-contracts on stars are a thing of the past.
What you want now is a fair 2nd contract, and that's what Jimmy got.
Both Jimmy and Brock's agent have said they first negotiated on a long-term
... but that they couldn't come anywhere close to an agreement.
But hey, there ARE some advantages to going short-term.
(especially in this particular case)
Those have been mentioned by others here...

Ben Hankinson is rather angry. This is a big issue. Will put up when it's available.

I think a long-term deal would have been near $10 mil - buying ufa years is expensive, and as much as I love Brock, with his injuries I needed to see more from him before committing to that kind of money (see: Nylander).
LOL> Wasn't close to that. As soon as the interview with Hankinson is available, I'll try and put it up.
Brock is not Nylander. Very different personality and has "far better" leadership qualities. Or am I wrong about that too?
I listened to the interview you linked.
Hankinson was not "angry".
Hankinson did not discuss how much they were demanding on a long-term.
Was there another interview you were going to link?

“We kind of met in the middle, basically. (Benning) wasn’t happy, I certainly wasn’t happy with where he got to and that’s usually a good sign. We swore at each other a little bit and got the deal done.”
So much anger!!!

They probably wanted $6.5M-$7M x3, Jimbro stuck to his guns and they settled on $5.875M AAV.
Hankinson : "They were stuck on a number and did not move for a long time. Sunday night Jim called and we huddled with the Canucks owner and got it moving in the right direction. There was some swearing but we got it done. #Canucks
Hankinson: It's great for Brock to be in Vancouver. I think it's the best place for him.
So it's not to the plan to sign a 3-year deal and get outta there.
I talked to Jim this morning, and he said the plan is to do a 3-year deal, then flip it into an 8-year deal.
8 year deal offer on the table in a couple years, just like what Tampa did with Kuch.

Okay, I found your second link and listened.
Hankinson said... earlier in negotiations... they were around $7M on a 6 year deal.
Then the market changed and Hankinson wanted more $$ on a long-term.
Thank you Mr Dubas!

Nice to see Brockstar get his contract done. Great cap hit for us, although we might have to pay him more later. If he proves he's a superstar, I have no problem paying him. 3 years is a great term for us as well. We should have Petey & Hughes 2nd contract done by then and we can see where Brock fits in. We'll also have Eriksson, Beags, Rooster and Louongo off the books, so it should give us a lot of flexibility.
