The Purple Mountains? He’s David Berman of the Silver Jews. Purple Mountains was a new project, that album was release July of last year, he died by suicide a month after the release. Yes he was a royal mess, drugs, depression etc., and that was his ex wife in the video. She was a member of the Silver Jews

If you want to see a good documentary watch The Devil and Daniel Johnston, a musician with serious mental illness. I believe it was Kurt Cobain who brought attention to him by wearing a t-shirt with Johnston’s artwork on it and album title - Hi How Are You. You may recognized one of Johnston’s songs from an I Mac commercial that came out a couple years ago:
