Given Demkos contract status ($5mil till end of next year) Silovs’ contract/waivers status and the continued development of both Tolo and now Ty Young down in Abby, throw in the teams strong history of developing #1 Tendy’s, I’m in the boat of stay the course and deal Lank by the deadline to the highest bidder. I don’t see Lank sitting more than 2-3 starts before he sees action again (enter Topper rant) so why would his play falter given he’s a career back up?

Unless Demmer either fails to gain his form or winds up back on the IR, Lankinen should be a goner.

Silovs can spend the next 4 months getting regular reps in Abby, while Demko and Lank split duties to the deadline.
I'm convinced he's a high quality injury prone goalie Blades. I think he's going to want a king's ransom to sign and then spend a lot of time rehabbing injuries. I'm seeing a pattern.

FWIW, Lankinen had a very good game last night. But coming into that game, he had a .901 save rate. He's been alternating looking quite good, looking pretty good, and looking not so good. Looks like a decent backup goalie to me who has shown an ability to keep his team above water while the far better goalie is sidelined.

If folks feel strongly about trading Demko/Lankinen, I think should post their ideas in the trade rumors forum if they want the discussion to continue because this thread becomes irrelevant soon.

My comment on the game? Beyond Lankinen and another solid effort on the forecheck, the Canucks weren't very good. They looked unskilled with all of their puck bobbling, and then abandoned trying to make plays at all in the third. It was like a bubble game against Vegas, except 2024 Boston is no 2020 Vegas and the Canucks would have been way better served to put the Bs on their heels. They won because the Bs had no puck luck and their only difference maker is Pasternak, and while his chances were reduced by the collapse, they weren't eliminated and he just missed.

That the Canucks can get 2 points out of games like this is a plus, but I hope the takeaway isn't "this is the formula."

Carl Yagro wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:05 pm Ok, just watched the highlights and it seems to have been all Bruins. These were high-quality, grade-A chances too. Anyone but Eddie Lank in net, possessed by the ghost of the shit-eating grin and it's a different story.

Did the shot totals tell the truth? Tocc couldn't have been too happy with those egregious turnovers.

Anyway, always satisfying to win in Beantown. Great job, Corn. Keep 'er going.
The Canucks offense looked AHL quality at best. Defense looked really good and KL was stellar.

A few comments;

Its not how, its how many.

A sea of Granlund offense isn't going far even if the surf is up. When clearing your own blueline is a major accomplishment generating offense won't happen. Can Vancouver generate off the rush or is it only dump and chase?

As well as he did blocking shots, is there room in the lineup for both Hughes and Branstrom. The new pairings looked better and seemed to help Soucy. There is a platoon replacing Cole, nothing is emerging to replace Zedorov.

The luck Vancouver has picking back up goaltenders of late is amazing ... but they are back ups.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Agreed that the lack of offence generated off the rush is becoming a real concern. Doesn’t appear to improve any time soon with the lack of practice time this week.

It’s interesting that the two most pressing needs today are the same as they were this time last year. A legit top four D, and depth at centre.

The Canucks are getting by sans Miller… for the moment. But man, they got destroyed on face offs once again. Starting a majority of shifts chasing the puck down is not a recipe for success. If there is one thing this team sorely misses from Lindholm, it’s his ability to win not just a majority, but key faceoffs on the right side.

Pettersson really improved his faceoff ability last season, but has stumbled back below his career average.

Great question -- when they've had rush opportunities, they've look pretty good at turning them into chances. The problem is creating the rush opportunity to begin with, and when they do, the chances are good but too many of them ending up on Blue Gill's stick :D (Like the guy, but finishing isn't his strong suit....)

I think the Canucks are doing well dumping and chasing these days, at least as well as can be done. But I've written it before on this board -- dumping and chasing should never be a strategy, it is simply what you do when puck possession entries are not available and when chip to space that you expect your guy to have even odds or better at getting possession isn't available. Less strategy, and more flowchart. Now even if you have an A+ offensive transitional game, you are going to get to that spot on the flowchart a lot because NHL teams play well in the neutral zone without the puck. So you should have a dump and chance and crash and create turnovers game, and teams poor with offensive transition play *really* need to have one. But better to have that game and lean on it less, no?

With Lankinen’s strong play and his bargain basement contract, I bet Allvin could start a bidding war tomorrow given the stage of the season.
I just don't think this is today's NHL though. Teams want two good goalies. If Demko returns to form, we have that. in a year where we are pushing to go further than the 2nd round. Last year if we hadn't had 3(!) good goalies, our uber season would have been down the shitter before playoffs even began.

I just don't see them trading any goalie this season, at least not in any of the scenarios offered. I'm not sure we get a haul back that we can't say no to either, at least for small sample size Lankinen.. a low 1st from a playoff team? I don't see us throwing away our this season safety net for a low 1st.
