Yeahno. Not going to change my opinion because of a dubiously sourced video.

I went back and looked at the end of that way too long boring video of a woman reading from a bunch of papers in front of her.

Please note that nothing she says is based on actual research, but rather on anecdotal evidence she has gathered on facebook.

One of the cases she’s upset about is the exact thing I’ve described from Italy and Spain, ie covid-19 patients dying from pneumonia, and she is upset this is listed as a corona death, while I was pointing out that it is wrong to not list it as a corona death. Yes, technically it is a bacterial infection killing the patient. But by that reasoning you could also say that no one ever died from HIV/AIDS. One of the most common causes of death in AIDS patients was pneumonia. Pneumonia is quite often a secondary infection in a patient weakened by another disease.

As I stated before, the death toll in Bergamo, Italy was quadrupled compared to the same period last year, but only 25% of deaths were listed as corona related, and instead there was a tremendous spike in pneumonia deaths. Imho, it seems reasonable to rxpect that roughly 75% of those who died died as a tesult of having contracted covid-19. To list them as ”respiratory failure” or ”pneumonia” reeks of a cover up, but is most likely just the result of stressed out doctors just listing what they can see rather than doing a thorough examination and finding the real cause of death.

Going back to the source of that highly questionable video. You have no name doctor from the home state of the UNA bomber and various conspiracy minded militias making some lame accusations based on what I consider flawed reasoning, presented by a francophone personal trainer in Sacramento (or Seattle or France, she seems to move around a lot) on a site that reeks of conspiracy theories. Hedy is a proud home schooler too. Anti-vaxxer? Probably. At least the doctor is.

Right. Of course I’m going to listen to these nut jobs rather than the expertise.

I have been meaning to write a piece about the nexus between the extreme right-wing and those who are endangering public health with absurd claims about the spread of COVID-19, but the Montana Human Rights Network already posted an indispensable look at one of the worst offenders, Dr. Annie Bukacek of Kalispell.

Bukacek and Ammon Bundy, organizing a couple hours away in northern Idaho, are opportunists who are capitalizing on the fear and uncertainty of the current pandemic. Instead of supporting community cohesiveness, smart public-health measures, and policies that protect people, they are risking lives for the sake of militia ideology and personal notoriety.

The Montana Human Rights Network has been researching and responding to white nationalists and anti-democratic extremists for 30 years. It’s clear these groups exploit every difficult circumstance in order to promote their agenda. Since more people are getting their COVID-19 updates online, anti-government militia activists are looking for openings on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms to amplify their talking points. They are targeting websites with an uptick in visitors, like places promoting survivalist tips, alternative medicine, COVID-19 updates, and more.

Since it’s difficult to fight an unseen and terrifying enemy like a disease, extremists are trying to provide real life targets at which people can direct their anxiety. For Bukacek, the enemy is her own local government. At a time when governments are needed to lead our collective efforts at public health, communities should continue listening to those who prioritize “flattening the curve” of COVID-19 and keeping the public safe. That includes public officials like the Kalispell City Council who are making decisions to lead with the best practices overwhelmingly endorsed by the medical community. Bukacek’s divisive ideas and activism are dangerous at a time when community and safety are clearly essential.

The Flathead County Commissioners who appointed Bukacek to their health board did so knowing that she is an anti-vaxxer who has advocated extremist anti-government views her entire career, so it cannot surprise them to have learned that, rather than promoting public health, she is actively undermining it with bad science and even worse conspiracy theories.
