If history is the best predictor of the future then Canucks will struggle to stockpile enough options to get to the point where they can wheel and deal to fill out the roster.
I agree that has been the step they have struggled most with since I have been following closely.
4 to 5 years out if all goes well, I'm thinking.

And then we have to worry about 1, maybe 2 expansion drafts. So letting ELCs slid where possible, ie cook in the NCAA or in junior or in EU as long as possible. Get rid of as many NMC as possible. Those sorts of things have to be thought about as well over the next 5 years. And of course have enough bodies available expose in the draft, players we will be glad to move on from, like a 3rd string goalie.

So while we are building we most certainly cannot rush for a variety of reasons. Best development pathways, roster construction, protection of key players for the draft(s). So a few more years of top 10 drafting would be nice.

When I was a kid in the '70s, I never thought I'd be in my 70's when the Canucks might win their first Cup...

Cory Pronman's organizational pipeline rankings are out today, with the canucks clocking in at a respectable 17th.

Hey - I'll take 17th - it's a start, and we should have one or two drafts to help rise in the chart for a few year.

10 years to SC contender though...unless Caleb is a beast.

Looks like we're in for a ride down the long and winding road

Maybe.

Draft well enough it can be done in 5 if properly managed.

They do need to suck this year...probably fuck that up too though.
