The 5 most outrageous things Hillary Clinton said in her FBI interview

1. She cited her 2012 concussion as the reason that she cannot remember details of briefings during her "transition out of office."

2. She said she never even thought whether emails she exchanged on a future U.S. drone attack should be classified.

3. She said she thought the "C" before a paragraph indicated alphabetical order. The C actually stands for "classified."

4. She said no one ever raised concerns to her about her use of a private email server.

5. She said she could not recall any training on how to handle classified information.
The FBI don't seem to think much of it:
If you read the entire report, you'll find bits and pieces that might show poor judgment on Hillary's part. The initial decision to use one email device is the obvious one, something that Hillary has acknowledged repeatedly. Another—maybe—is her staff's view of what was safe to send over unclassified email. But this is very fuzzy. It could be that her staff knew exactly what it was doing, and it's the subsequent classification authorities who are wrong. This is something that it's impossible to judge since none of us will ever see the emails in question.

That said, this report is pretty much an almost complete exoneration of Hillary Clinton. She wasn't prohibited from using a personal device or a personal email account, and others at state did it routinely. She's told the truth all along about why she did it. Colin Powell did indeed advise her about using personal email shortly after she took office, but she chose to follow the rules rather than skirt them, as Powell did. She didn't take her BlackBerry into her office. She communicated with only a very select group of 13 people. She took no part in deciding which emails were personal before handing them over to State. She had nothing to do with erasing information on the PRN server. That was a screw-up on PRN's end. She and her staff all believed at the time that they were careful not to conduct sensitive conversations over unclassified email systems. And there's no evidence that her server was ever hacked.

There's remarkably little here. If you nonetheless believe that it's enough to disqualify Hillary from the presidency, that's fine. I have no quarrel with you. But if the FBI is to be believed, it's all pretty small beer.

“I’m a Republican, but I also realize, by any objective analysis, the sea level is rising,” said Jason Buelterman, the mayor of tiny Tybee Island, one of the first Georgia communities to adopt a detailed climate plan.
oops could it be a republican admitting that republicans shouldn't be admitting there is a problem?

Useful science or worst case scaremongering?

Doubtless there is some utility in playing out worst-case scenarios as a way to plan for the future. That being said, the New York Times is reporting a new study, "Millions projected to be at risk from sea level rise in the continental United States," in Nature Climate Change that calculates the number of Americans that would be affected by sea level rises between 3 and 6 feet by 2100 due to man-made global warming. As far as I can tell, the main contribution of the study is new coastal population projections. The researchers calculate that if sea level rises by 3 feet, the land that 4.2 million Americans live on will be at risk of inundation. If sea level rises by 6 feet, then 13.1 million Americans might have to move inland. The costs of relocating that many people could be as much $14 trillion. So researchers can now get their studies published in a prestigious scientific journal and publicized by leading newspapers by merely assuming a catastrophe. Neat trick.

In any case, the researchers cite various estimates for future sea level rise; most of them based on various computer model projections. But what is the actual current rate of sea level rise? According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminisrtration, average global sea level rise has speeded up and is now increasing at 0.12 inch per year. If that rate were sustained for the next 84 years, that would mean that sea level would increase by just over 10 inches. That's not nothing, but it is not much greater than the approximately 7 inch increase that occurred during the 20th century. Interestingly, millions of Americans did not retreat from the coasts in the past century.

Apple’s App Store seems to have been caught protecting Hillary Clinton from political satire games while allowing titles like “Punch Trump” onto the digital retail platform.

A new game called “Hide it Hillary” originally was denied access to Apple’s App Store because company gatekeepers said it “includes content that could be considered defamatory or mean-spirited.” The same vetting process allowed titles like “Punch Trump,” “Slap Donald Trump,” and “Smack a Trump” into the marketplace.

Yeah, the ice sheet covering Scandinavia during the last ice age was 2 km thick. The weight of it pressed the Earth crust down, and after it thawed Scandinavia has slowly risen again. It's bveen 10,000 years, so the process is slowing down, but northern Sweden is still rising from the sea by roughly 9 mm per year, which means fishing villages and ports from centuries past can be quite a bit away from the shore.

The estimates of rising sea levels due to global warming vary quite a bit, but many expect a rise of roughly 1 metre over the next century, which means for northern Scandinavia it will pretty much just offset the rise from the sea that we would have over that time period.

I guess Vancouver may have a similar history of rising from the sea, but being so far South, I doubt that you can rise at the same speed as we do? Or did the ice sheet go further down in North America than in Europe?

Funny story: when Swedish scientists in the 17th century first noticed that the coastline was slowly changing, and that the coast kept retreating, they first launched a theory that there must be a leak at the bottom of the Baltic, so that the water was slowly being drained away!

But that's the thing with science; unlike religion, which is based on dogma, science is always evolving. Scientists look at the evidence and decide which theory fits it best. Then as new evidence arrives, it is added to the prior knowledge, and theories are adjusted to incorporate new discoveries. Thus century by century, decade by decade, year by year, science keeps finetuning its picture of the world. Thus we are not stuck with a world view based on what people thought during the bronze or early iron age, but with each generation we know more about and have a better understanding of the world we live in.
