Yes, this. The media doesn’t have the best track record with these things, and they don’t seem to have a great pipeline into the Canucks. Many teams and agents alike, I am sure, skirt rules (off the record) and float half truths in their attempts to influence the market, send signals they are interested, etc. But take it like an injury report in the playoffs.

There are quite a few players out there who’d be interesting adds to the Canucks, especially at the right price. Would love it if today the Canucks added a quality player no one has connected them to, like a Teuravinan up front or a Roy on D. Beyond that there are plenty of players who might make it through today without a contract, whose shine has worn off, maybe who have been overpaid In the past, but who will have the chance to provide value once they are properly characterized: e.g., Edmundson as a bottom pair, Zucker as a motor not a scorer/playmaker, etc.

There can be value found in free agency when you don’t fixate on guys and you don’t get trapped in bidding wars. Doesn’t have to be those guys above, though IMO all would fit well in Vancouver. Point is whales are often white, orcas hunt in pods, and it is a team being built.

Reminds me of a story I've told before about a friend who invited me to attend the Vancouver Auto Auction with him...

His dealership had a surplus of used vehicles and he wanted to sell some off at the auction...

I sat in on 2 meetings, the last just as the auction was about to start, reminding his sales managers that they were to sell cars and not to buy cars...

The first car to go thru was a Ford Contour in an ugly colour with a hit over $2,000, a car nobody should want and the one buying it was my friend...

His sales managers asked him what the heck he was doing and his answer was that he got caught up in the hype...

July 1st is the Vancouver Auto Auction on steroids and is where you want your management team to have the fortitude to just say no to silly contracts and maybe more importantly the respect of ownership to keep them away from pulling the trigger like my friend did that day...

There will be many more trigger points along the season which will result in opportunties, so no need to lay it all out today if the deals don't make sense...

Lots of signing so far even though the market hasn’t opened yet. Zadorov and Lindholm to the Bruins - hate that team so don’t mind they signed 2 guys to likely massive deals that won’t age well.

Canucks supposedly in on DeBrusk which is fine, he’s a solid winger. No idea who else as Allvin and team always keep their info to themselves.

Lindholm and Zadorov in the East is just fine.

Think he will end up being the backup with the big club, but maybe not.

I'd like to see a legit, experienced NHL goalie backing up so Demko can be cut off at say 55 max.

Silovs is not ready for that I don't think.
