Click bait headline this morning suggesting Calgary trying to move Kuz.
With Skinner, they have that dangerous "good enough" goalie where a team convinces themselves an upgrade isn't worth the price and then complains about losing while outplaying their opponent's whose goalie steals games in the playoffs.

I don't think there's any question that they got worse on D. Both Ceci and Broberg were likely slated to be in the top 6. And if Ekholm starts hitting the age wall? Things could get ugly.

On the other hand, Bouchard can improve his defensive play, Nurse has played better in the past and could do so again, and Ekholm could repeat his season. Still, its crazy to look at this roster and think that money on the wing ($7 million on Skinner and Arvidsson) was the best place for it. In the abstract, all of the acquisitions and re-signings (Skinner, Arvidsson, Janmark, Henrique, Perry) were individually decent deals (Perry being the most questionable), but were they really what Edmonton needed most? I don't think so.
I my mind, Skinner is more Dan Cloutier than Roberto Luongo on that scale of "just not good enough."

The way he folded and was benched in the playoffs was telling.
Its possible that Skinner's benching and recovery will make him more resilient in the future. On the other hand, the Rinehart goal was on the goalie, and that's the goal that won the cup... And that's the thing about Skinner and goalies like him. They aren't bad but there are too many soft goals at bad times or the inability to come up with the big save. Or the big saves happen when down a goal but not when up a goal... Skinner could still improve mentally and athletically, but he doesn't read the game as well as the best goalies, and his fundamentals still leave a lot to be desired. There's a ceiling for guys like that.

Cloutier! Right, I confess to thinking Cloutier was "good enough" in those years. I had considered Cloutier's ability to play well for pretty long stretches, and discounted his ability to nearly single handedly blow games. When there was pressure, he was just terrible.

They could have also preplanned the entire thing, and pre negotiated in your scenario.
Entirely plausible. Don't keep Ceci, we will throw you this prospect. Don't keep Holloway, we will throw you this pick. That kind of thing.

The only question is "How much would the Canucks get fined for pulling a stunt like this?" :D

I listened to the coilerline all morning and what I'm hearing ( LOL)

-Embrayson is as good as Broberg ( LOL)

-Broberg is injury prone, has taken forever to develop, all of a sudden is a B or even C prospect (LOL)

-Podkolzin is just as good as Holloway for half the cost (LOL)

-Stetcher spent 40 minutes with Nurse last year(LOL) and looked pretty good for that 2 periods so that means he's likely going to be just fine on the top 4 ( LO-fucking-L)

-Embrayson and Kulak are a ready to be an effective pair (LOL)

-They are now the oldest team in the NHL and are also acknowledging they might be the slowest as well (LOL)

Fuck me it's been a great day of listening!

There is talk around 'Berta that the coilers and Flames are discussing a Rasmus Andersson to Edmonton trade. Not fan stuff but multiple reports apparently

Let's hope that one's baloney because I think RA is actually pretty solid

Since the Flames are rebuilding, I don't mind if they trade Rasmus, as long as they get a decent return and they trade him anywhere else but Edmonton. The Oilers have traded most of their draft picks for the next couple of years and they don't have much in the way of upcoming talent in their system, so I don't think they would be a good trade partner (plus I wouldn't deal with those fuckers).

Also, these rumors must be generated in Edmonton, as I haven't seen this rumor on any of the Calgary hockey boards or media outlets. I think it is just wishful thinking on the Oilers media part.

Got to think that if this trade materialized it would be along the lines of:

To CGY: salary dump, 2026 1st, 2027 1st
To Edm: Andersson, mid pick

But, who do the Oilers have for a salary dump? Nurse? Kane? They just don't have a lot left to give. And, unless they change their cap structure, Andersson is a rental for 2 years, and then gets lost to free agency. Hmm. I am kinda liking this idea.

That sounds fair, but the Oilers have traded away their first round picks already. So, I don't see Edmonton as being a viable trade partner for the Flames. As Tciso pointed out - the Oilers don't have a lot to give. Once Mcduffus and Dry Saddle leave, they will take a long time to rebuild due to lack of draft picks and prospects.

Andersson is a good player, surely you can get more for him from someone else, or at least more near future picks then a 2026 and 2027 (not to mention these will surely be low 1rp's). No rush to trade him either I don't think
