I suppose the good part of a rebuild is that they can retain cap to help them get to the cap floor

Kessel, whe asked if he is worried about his future in Toronto and the trade rumours.
No, I go where they want me. I'm not worried. I like Toronto but if it's not here it's not here. It will be somewhere.
Then he smiles and smirks at reporters. He really doesn't give a shit and he really doesn't get it. Easy to see now why Boston didn't want to sign him to the contract he thought he was worth and why the Bruins laughed all the way through two drafts. What a colossal fuck up that guy is.
But I guess he has let it be known he will waive if asked.

I came across this apparent text conversation between Kessel and his agent, Wade Arnott during a recent game.Hockey Widow wrote:Kessel, whe asked if he is worried about his future in Toronto and the trade rumours.

Kessel: "I've got a problem here."
Arnott: "Eject."
Kessel: "I can hold it."
Arnott: "Pull up!"
Kessel: "No, I'm all—Aargh!"
Anyway, looks like the Kessel run might be finished.

Any chance Tarana can finish the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs?Rayxor wrote: I came across this apparent text conversation between Kessel and his agent, Wade Arnott during a recent game.

Pisses me off . I do not want the leaves to get a top 5 pick in this draft. I will cringe to see one of Hanifin , Strome or Marner wearing that grubby sweater , let alone McJesus or Eichel. Oh well, maybe they will keep OneBall Yellow Teeth around to mentor their three good prospects . Other than 2015 1st rounder , Reilley and Nylander the tranny they don't have any decent youngsters .

This why I don't get why folks here are cheering for them to completely shit the bed, we should be cheering for them to win like the Oilers, why the fuck do we want to see a very good young prospect in a Leaf Uni?Blob Mckenzie wrote:Pisses me off . Because we know that they can't even tank properly, they'll go on a winning streak and miss the play-offs by about 6 points. We have faith in the most fucked-up pro-sports team ever. Gotta love it.

Yup, 2 of their top 3 hardest-working players (the other being Komorov) GONE.okcanuck wrote:Well the Tankin Maple Laughs are sinking faster now with the Franson trade. What a joke this franchise is!!!
Also, 2 of their best bang-for-the-buck contracts - GONE.
How do they replace guys like that next season?
ANSWER: They don't.
Franson + Santorelli... for... a 2015 first-round pick, Olli Jokinen and prospect Brendan Leipsic.
I've been saying for years that the Leaves were mismanaging Franson.
1.5 years ago Nonis could have signed him to a 5-year $3.3M-per contract.
Instead: blew his cap-space on Clarkson + Bozak + Bolland, then put the squeeze on Franson (1 year $2M).
Even last summer they might have got him on a 5-year $4.2M-per deal but nope (1 year $3.3M).
So now they're forced to trade him for futures.
The late 2015 1st might turn into an NHLer a few years down the road.
But, unlikely to be as good as Franson (especially at the $3.3M-per cap-hit in-his-prime they could've had).
And they threw Santo into the deal and took back cap-dump Jokinen?
I thought sellers at the deadline always win.

This Leipsic kid put up points in junior, but he was on a line with Petan + Rattie.
Leipsic is also very tiny.
He has put up a lot of assists as a 20-year-old in the AHL, but only 7 goals (47 games).
Yeah, I can't see a little punk like this making it in the NHL:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 51s51 seconds ago
Some scouts peg Leipsic as potential 3rd/4th liner tho some say he's not a lock to play regularly. 7-28-35 in 47 AHL games this season.
Personally I would have waited until closer to the deadline to get better value.
I'm very happy though that the Leaves are trusting the guy who put them in a massive hole
... (see Dave's video a few posts up ^) to dig them back out.

Seriously, it's like they think SUCK REAL BAD = GREAT REBUILD.
Morons.
However, I have no doubt that the Leaves will SUCK REAL BAD in the very very very long term.

Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread
This is a good short term deal for Nashville. They have a number of good prospects still in their system and a current roster that should be competitive for several more years. Pickng up Franson and Santorelli is a good playoff depth move. Since both are UFA they will also have a chance to asses whether either or both fit into their long term plans.
If not they could trade their rights at the end of the season for very late picks, well Franson perhaps, or let them walk. They give up a late first and a b- type prospect. They get rid of one useless roster piece and free up space to add more if they feel they need to. This is the type of move a contender gets to make.
The leaves don't make out too bDly given how they blew their handling of Fransen for the last several yeRs. They do get a first in a deep draft and a prospect to restock the Marlies. Adding the joker is a cap dump for Nashville but the leaves maybe be able to trade him for a late pick to a team wanting insurance for the playoffs. He won't garner much of anything but they may get lucky and get a fourth or later. Turn shit into something.
Hard to say if they could have gotten much more. I thought to the right team Franson alone could have garnered a late first and Santorrelli a second. So they basically got that with this deal.
But Doc is right. This is the end of the horrible mismanagement of Franson. We will see if he sticks to his word and tests FA and or if Nashville sees him as just a rental.
The return is about what was expected. No over payment for a TDD and no home run for the leaves.

Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread
The leaves got Franson and Santorelli for almost nothing. So this is a solid return.
For people overrating Franson (And I said this months ago), the guy had a "One good season, One Bad Season" thing happening in Toronto. Not a guy you want to keep for years to come. He was just so bad last season. It's much better to sell high on him.
Not a consistently good top 4 D-Man.
