They better hope for good weather. They're going to need 200 K.
There will be cardboard sign holding wops covered in one piece tracksuits and tacky gold bling on every corner!
(And Wop is not racist Mods- it means with out papers)....before you get any pq notions of grandeur
LOL as Donny mentioned, a guy was in the stands in Abby last night holding a sign offering to throw in twenty to sign Willander.
I'm sure they didn't mean to show it, but they're always panning the crowd on every break, looking for East Indians to show enjoying the game the way they used to look for hot chicks, and there it was

And that's exactly what I always think they're looking for too

Yeah, they started doing it at sporting events years ago now. In Abby, it's the same 15-20 people over and over again lol.
Historically, it was used in a derogatory way toward Italian immigrants, especially in the United States during the early 20th century. It's believed to have either come from the Neapolitan word "guappo" (meaning a swaggering man, but in American English it got twisted into something negative), or from an acronym myth ("Without Papers") — though the acronym explanation is almost certainly false.
Today, it’s widely recognized as an offensive term and is considered disrespectful.

Be thankful, no Penthouse nor the No. 5 Orange without the WOPs.

Dens of iniquity!
Yes, and the WOPs who built those dens of iniquity, are all in this photo, taken in the early 40’s. A roomful of Vancouver’s top bootleggers of the time - Ross Filippone at the head of the table in a tie, his brother Mickey to his left. The Filippone’s with brothers Joe and Jimmy owned the Penthouse, although when this photo was taken they hadn’t opened the cabaret yet until a few years later. Ross’ son Danny runs the Penthouse currently. To Mickeys left is Joe Iaci, of Iaci’s Restaurant which for many years operated across the street from the Penthouse, I spent a lot of time at Iaci’s as a kid. The Iaci’s are cousins of the Filippone’s. And last but not least, to Joe Iaci’s left in the jacket with the striped sleeves and collar is Gillie Brandolini, whom which the No. 5 Orange is named after. The number 5 was Gillie’s favourite number. Gillie bought the Melbourne Hotel in 1943 (what the number 5 was originally called) on earnings from bootlegging, operating out of Hogan’s Alley in Strathcona. Gillie and his Dad did a few terms in Oakalla. Gillies son turned the 5 into a stripper bar.

Thanks Chef.
You’re welcome Megs, it’s my Aunts photo, or in her possession, it’s the original.

Thnx Chef, some interesting fun facts about Vancouver history. I noticed Eve Lazarus (author of Van-city cold cases) did a blog about Iaci's as well.
