If the cap goes up next year by the same amount it did this year, Leaves could have $13M to spend

$8M to Barrie + $3M to RFA Dermott + $1M to replacement level Muzzin replacement + $1M to Ceci replacement player = $13M.

So yes, it could be done, but the Leaves would be left with just 2 top 4 dee (Rielly and Barrie)

... along with bottom pairing Dermott and a bunch of near-minimum salary plugs + rookies.

Not a good idea, but Barrie will save you from that disaster by walking away next summer.

Tavares, Nylander, Matthews, Marner, and Kerfoot.

... they each only had one year of half-decent numbers.

You're counting the 4 minimum salary UFA contracts that will expire.

Those 4 spots have to be replaced by 4 other minimum salary contracts.

I simplified things, replace those slugs with other slugs next year and the number is 13.

I think since Marner wants the short-term, he holds until December, signs a 2-year contract offer sheet at $8.45 mil, backloaded so he gets a fat QO. Leaves can't match, since the LTIR space shrinks over the season, and the receiving team only has to give up a 1st and a 3rd.

Nah,I don't think anyone takes Auston Glassman Matthews at that cap hit. Maybe the Leaves can throw in their next 1st
