If the cap goes up next year by the same amount it did this year, Leaves could have $13M to spend

... if they let Muzzin and Ceci walk.

$8M to Barrie + $3M to RFA Dermott + $1M to replacement level Muzzin replacement + $1M to Ceci replacement player = $13M.

So yes, it could be done, but the Leaves would be left with just 2 top 4 dee (Rielly and Barrie)

... along with bottom pairing Dermott and a bunch of near-minimum salary plugs + rookies.

Not a good idea, but Barrie will save you from that disaster by walking away next summer.

I'm glad you know that.

Add him to the list of players overpaid by $2M on long term contracts.

Tavares, Nylander, Matthews, Marner, and Kerfoot.

We don't know yet about Kapanen and Johnsson, but maybe them too

... they each only had one year of half-decent numbers.

You're counting the 4 minimum salary UFA contracts that will expire.

Those 4 spots have to be replaced by 4 other minimum salary contracts.

I simplified things, replace those slugs with other slugs next year and the number is 13.

There are players already signed for that year you aren't counting who wil have larger roles.
Don't count on leaves needing 3 million for a 4th line forward like Canucks do.

I guess they let Muzzin walk

Another 1st round pick wasted. (See Marleau). The ELC’s of first round picks are always important to teams jammed to the cap. Dubbed-An-Ass don’t get it. I guess they are hoping all those cheaper smurfs like Petan and Bracco will help in this manner. The ones who will be pinballing off the Bruins in the playoffs, that Tuna thinks counts as hits

No because they win the cup this year with him.

Toronto over Dallas in the finals.

Hilarious - two first round picks traded away, and all they have to show for it is 1.25 seasons of Muzzin and ridding themselves of Marleau?

I think since Marner wants the short-term, he holds until December, signs a 2-year contract offer sheet at $8.45 mil, backloaded so he gets a fat QO. Leaves can't match, since the LTIR space shrinks over the season, and the receiving team only has to give up a 1st and a 3rd.

Leaves can take that 1st + 3rd, then trade Matthews for a few more picks and begin their rebuild in earnest. :drink:

Nah,I don't think anyone takes Auston Glassman Matthews at that cap hit. Maybe the Leaves can throw in their next 1st
