The player, the Flames drafted with our pick from the Lindholm trade:
28. Calgary Flames (from VAN) -- Matvei Gridin, RW, Muskegon (USHL)
NHL Central Scouting ranking: No. 21 (North American skaters)
Gridin (6-1, 189) began playing hockey at age 3 in his hometown of Kurgan, Russia. It was there his father, Andrey, began teaching him the fundamentals. He played for St. Petersburg and Omsk in Russia's development leagues before being chosen by Muskegon in the 15th round (No. 223) of the 2022 United States Hockey League draft. The 18-year-old led the USHL with 83 points (38 goals, 45 assists) in 60 games, a vast improvement on the 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) he had in 40 games in 2022-23. Committed to play at the University of Michigan next season, Gridin knows how to play to his strengths, which include his intelligence, playmaking and one of the quickest shot releases Muskegon coach Parker Burgess said he has ever seen.
NHL.com analysis: After addressing their needs on defense with Parekh, the Flames select leading scorer in the USHL in Gridin. Scouts like Gridin's hockey sense, which allows him to be dangerous on the penalty kill. The Flames have started to tilt more toward younger, more athletic forwards with Matt Coronato and Connor Zary expected to get more playing time next season, and 2023 first-round pick (No. 16) Samuel Honzek and Gridin could be right behind them.

Not really. He's one of the hardest hitting dmen in the NHL on a top team.
He's a major league prick but that's the whole point no?
He would be unreal beside QH with Rick Tocchet and Adam Foote calling his number
Just because he hits hard doesn't make him a good player. You guys all had lovers nuts for Gudbranson too. How did that go?
Ffs he's a top pairing shut down defender on one of the top teams in the NHL. He had a bum ankle last year that set him back then he was fixated on running out of position too much which fucked up his confidence at the worst time of the year. (Or so it's rumoured anyways)
He can skate, hit, retrieve pucks, has a fantastic first pass and has a howitzer from the point too.
He would step in and be our top pairing 1st unit PP righty dropping Hronek down to the 2nd pairing for sure.
It's weird you have a hate on for him though considering how highly you value belligerence. Comparing him to Guddy is just being purposely obtuse

I like Hronek but I'm not sure if I like that deal yet. That said he's a better player than Trouba.

Sounds like we didn't give up that much after all. That right there is a b prospect at best.
I was listening to some flame talk for no reason at all yesterday and there are some concerns that HBs success last year was a perfect storm for the positive and he may be hard pressed to repeat that kind of season.

Making a point only, it’s a bygone trade chip, we now no longer have in our worldly possession, in which we could’ve used in a more effective manner when the time was more suited for such a move.
The stockpile will be thinned out greatly by the time when we need to make such moves. Moves that could be the difference maker to secure Lord Stanley “that elusive missing piece” we won’t have a leg to stand on when our competitors will. Shame

Fox and Lindgren is the top pairing.
I liked Gudbranson till I saw him play 20 games. It took some folks a lot longer to realize how shitty he was.
Trouba is fine as a middle pairing D but he's going to want to cash in on his next deal. Find the nastiness at a lower cost.

Nailed it Blobbee - middle pairing guy with big over payment potential. NYR is seeing the writing.

Interesting note today. The Canucks reveal that had they beaten Edmonton in game 7 last spring they were set to bring Lekkermaki in, to replace Boeser until Boeser would have been cleared to play. They have a lot of confidence in the kid and you have to wonder if they will try to get him games this season if they already see him as a potential Boeser replacement. If he can make the jump sometime this season you have to believe that they may try to move Boeser. There would be huge cap savings there, as well as any asset they could get for Boeser.
Or they could keep both seeing as how we are still one top 6 forward short without trading Boeser

If he is having a good year and the team is doing well I could certainly see them keeping him. But it’s the overall picture isn’t it. He is going to demand big bucks as a FA. I love to find a way to keep him but I am skeptical.

Only in Columbus. He steals 4 million a year. In 13 seasons he has gotten top 4 ice time per game exactly 5 times. A neat stat for those that can comprehend it. Four of those teams were/are a putrid mess. One team, the Panthers, snagged a playoff spot by the skin of their teeth and John Tavares lit him up like a Christmas tree. Would you consider him a legit top 4 guy on a decent team? I wouldn't. Doubtful most others would.
Would you want him on the top 4 of your current Canucks squad? He's Zadorov with 1/4 of the talent and 1/8 of the charisma.

7 times actually, and he was right on the cusp every other season other than his rookie year.
In 789 career regular season games, the Guds has averaged 18:36 MPG (21:48 in 31 playoff games)
... within a few seconds of Top 4 icetime (32 teams x 4 = 128 dmen, look it up #128th icetime).
Since his rookie season, he has average top 4 icetime (admittedly barely) over the last 12 seasons.

That was the year a young (24-yr-old) Gudbranson was tasked with shutting down the Isles top line.
He led the Cats in icetime (averaged 26:54 over 6 games) and by all accounts was great.

He's (barely) a #4 on the average NHL team.
He is at the very least a #5 perfectly capable playing in the #4 spot for extended time.

Hockey Reference is a thing. I pointed out his average TOI on the teams he was playing on and said it off the hop. You as usual moved the goalposts and came up with a league wide stat.
You're a Klown. And a Master of Puppets. When are you bringing back your buddies, Ice Man, Dick Stroker, Spidey and Gohmert?

Not possible to "move the goalposts" as no parameters were established for this debate.
Also, the only one who can move the goalposts is the one who started the debate: You.
"League wide stats" are totally relevant here.

I think anyone knows I was talking per team per game. I mentioned his TOI as a top 4 minute guy in five seasons of 13. Then you start pulling stats as per overall overtime in total throughout the league.
Never change. You're a pinhead.
