IMO we need to replace big Z. The left side is very weak, so much so that the Canucks circled back to Cole. Does not appear he is interested at whatever dollars the Canucks are offering. We will see if he is still available in a week or so.

So I think if we need to upgrade anywhere, its on D and the left side is a priority. It would be nice to have more depth on the right but we are very thin on the left.

The dream of a 9 million dollar player was crazy. Although it can still happen I would hate it. Allvin has done a good job in managing the cap and getting us to where we have cap space July 1st to fill roster holes. Don't blow on one player. There are some good complimentary players out there, some may take a one year show me deal, others will cost some coin.

I'd love Stamkos but I think he is going to want too much for our liking and he has no connection to Vancouver to entice him to take a little less to play here.

Honestly, is there a FA d'man that you would prefer over big Z and who would take less than 5 million?

This should be an automatic target. Clearly if me and Chef are both all in on the same plan it must be the golden ticket.

While I agree that Stamkos has no connection here, Miller is a former teammate, there’s the complete lack of history that can be enticing for a player, Vancouver is a very desirable locale to live in, and Stamkos can look at our roster and last year’s record, as well as being 2 goals from the conference final despite missing our top goal scorer and Vezina nominated goaltender. We’re a team that a guy like Stammer could win another Cup with.

When adding Stamkos to a roster, I think we’re a better bet for a Cup than either of Nashville or Detroit.

Since DeSmith turned down the Canucks latest offer and is going to FA, Jack Campbell for league minimum to back up Tolopilo in Abbotsford might be a good fit. Journeyman with some experience that can help Tolopilo develop, and maybe he gets his game in better shape under Ian Clark.

I gotta believe that Stamkos will want to go where he feels he has a chance to go to the finals again. He saw a Demko-less and injured Petey/Hronek and clotted Boeser Canucks nearly remove the Oilers from the playoffs. That should be enough to entice the fella

I'm surprised they didn't extend an offer to Cicek.

Put 2 fingers on this as well. I would do the 2 orange finger happy dance if this happened.

Cal Foote not qualified - playing system for Dad may help. Cheap, big, not much foote speed. Split bottom pairing time with Luke Schenn when Tampa won a cup. May be a slight upgrade on Juulsen and Friedman on the bottom pairing RHD.

Edit - maybe not.

He is one of the players mixed up in the sexual assault charges, along with Carter Hart who also wasn’t qualified. Probably won’t be in the league for a while.

Cal Foote...the guy in the middle of the HC (alleged) sex scandal.

Yeah.

Hard pass.

Just edited that above, wasn’t aware he was in that group.

There was a rumour a few weeks back that they liked Joel Edmundson - he’s huge and likely a 5/6 D. Not all that mobile but would replace much of what Z brought although he has zero offense. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was signed as we all know Tocchet likes big.

Speaking of big.

And mean.

We spoke briefly of this last week and I know it's not popular here BUT if NYR were to retain 2.5 - 3 and the residual cost to take him off their hands was minimal I'd like to take a run at Trouba.

After the beating Hughes took versus Nashville I'd like a nasty piece of business riding with him AND I'd prefer to see Hronek as RSD #3.

Our Zads replacement and a right hand shot.

We'd have him on the books for 2 years at the reduced rate allowing Willander and EP2 et al developmental time.

QH Trouba
Soucy Hronek
Juulsen Giraffe
Woo
McWard
Whatever else you want to do
