Canadian dollar is tanking vs the US dollar meaning Canadian clubs will need to look for revenue streams to offset the exchange rate.

Friedman sporting that preliminary talks about cap increase are being held. He says there is speculation that the cap could rise between 7-9 million!!! Wow if true. That would certainly help us out of our OEL hit over the next few years while still allowing us to make some upgrades. It could even allow us to bring Boeser back at 8 million for 5-6 years.
The only HW the Canucks need
Re: League Business
If the cap goes up all around the league, then all of the other teams have the same increase that we do, and players will also seek corresponding increases in their own contracts. Other teams (some) won't have dead cap.
I'd be curious to see which Cup winners were carrying dead cap space and how much.

Re: League Business
If the cap goes up that much and we pay Boeser 8 M then that only eats 1,350,000 of the new cap. Plenty to cover OEL and add. Soucy will be on his final year. The year after Myers is on his final year. Plenty in the pot to re-up Hughes for his mega deal. Work in a few rookies on D. We are set for our dynasty years.Mëds wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 12:52 am If the cap goes up all around the league, then all of the other teams have the same increase that we do, and players will also seek corresponding increases in their own contracts. It helps us only against teams not spending to the cap. Teams that spend to the cap (or LTIR/playoffs trick) will still have a spending a pdvantage until we lose the buyouts gifted upon us.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 6:18 pm Friedman sporting that preliminary talks about cap increase are being held. We may indeed be able to retain homegrown talents like Boeser and then Hughes. However, retaining them now uses up all the “new” space. That dead cap is the space you need if you want to compete with the teams who are also retaining their own talent while at the same time possessing the cap room (which we don’t have) to add from outside the team…..either free agency or trade.

Mandatory concussion protocol is 7-10 days at best, at worst career ending. That is 3-4 games in most best case scenarios. Should headshot suspensions where there is an injury be an automatic 5 games to reflect the time lost in protocol?
... and what of shoulder injuries?

League Cap Estimates:
25-26: $95.5M
26-27: $104M
27-28: $113.5M
Complain all we want about ownership... at least they buck up. I'm curious how many other teams will be hovering around the league cap floor in a few years.

Lucky for the Canucks, this comes with the worst years of OEL's buyout coming up.

Re: League Business
We've heard that the cap would break $100 million for the past couple of years, this is blowing that number out of the water and we have also heard that some owners are uncomfortable with these higher limits...JelloPuddingPop wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 10:32 am League Cap Estimates:

So I asssume that we'll start to see teams overpaying for contracts with actual $ much lower than their cap hits...
Take care...

Can we trade the OEL buyout to a cap floor team?

Can’t see the small market teams jumping for joy on this.
