4th period, Sept 25, 2018:
Ottawa tried to trade Zack Smith last season and this summer. He’s now on waivers with 3-years left on his deal. Bit of a surprise, frankly.
$3.25M x 2 left on deal, no bonuses, 10 team no trade to clause.
Eriksson for Smith straight up.
SOLD!!
dang, Hawks traded Anisimov for Smith.
https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/b ... story.html
Hawks get $1.3M in cap space in the deal. *& the Sens save $1.5M actual dollars - proof Eugene Melnyk want's to save cash.
Wow, I didn't realize the Hawks were in such dire straits with the cap.
After this trade, I definitely don't the Hawks being the non-playoff team in the West to jump up into a wildcard spot.
$27M in 3 forwards, and they've had to trade out too many up and comers (see Panarin for one) because of their commitments to their old core.
$11M in goaltending.....neither of whom are top 10.
5 of their top 6 dmen are making $3.8M or more. If Keith wasn't on such a bargain long term deal they'd be screwed.

non-stop ideals!
Eriksson for Canes James Reimer.
NY sports columnist: Luke DeCock -
James Reimer’s time with the Hurricanes could be short.
Agreed to take on his contract to get out from under Darling buyout. Other potential moves in works.
Reimer $3.4M AAV x2 - $3.1M cap hit if in minors - saves $2.9M cap if we make this deal and send Reimer to Utica.
Reimer/DiPietro Comets goalie combo.
Carolina to Dallas flight is only a 2hr 40min away, so Eriksson could waive.

The Kovalchuk cap circumvention penalty was never "dropped".
You're referring to the penalty on an earlier contract (July 2010, 17 year contract).
(that was not a "cap recapture penalty", it was rejected by the league and the punishment was immediate)
The cap recapture penalty was applied to the later contract (Sept 2010, 15 year contract).
(that contract was accepted by the league and then punished retroactively with the new CBA in 2013)
Canucks will not be fighting against the so-called "Luongo Rule"...

Now we're talking....
So much doom and gloom over Eriksson's contract (glass half empty) while for a cap floor team, especially in a lower revenue market he might have one of the best contracts in the league (half full)...
And for cap floor teams, I doubt the players will make the same mistake twice by limiting the cap increase to just .5% next year....What if they choose to increase it a full 5% or over $4 million which puts more pressure on cap floor/revenue starved franchises...
Typical Canuck luck....meager salary raise and Luongo cap recapture within days of each other...
If only the whiners and complainers would focus their complaints to where they should be....downtown New York.....
Take care...

No shit there’s doom and gloom. It’s a toxic fucking contract. So you want the team to improve the next couple years? Paying 13.35 million for fourth line scrubs (Louie, Brandon and Jay) for the next two to three years kinda handcuffs the team a wee bit in a cap world. And obviously no low market revenue team would touch him with a ten foot pole. Those teams WANT VALUE contracts not a guy throwing up 25 points and collecting 6 million. Wake up man from your drooling slumber.
Nothing to do with Canuck luck on signing those three shitrats to mega deals. Garbage contracts one and all.
Whiners and complainers - you mean people who preach common sense to the helmet heads who think these are in some way decent contracts for a rebuilding team, let alone any team.
Hargraves cant believe the people who just say” ok it’s a good contract and cap space doesn’t matter”.

Ruh-roh, Raggy!
Hargraves reverting back to the old character in the first three paragraphs, recovers and returns to third-person mode.

One of those is not like the others, there’s room on the team for both sutter and beagle and it actually gives us some decent depth at center.

Just because there’s room on the team for them doesn’t mean they are any better than 4th liners.
That said Beagle and Sutter have a better attitude and work ethic than Louie does. Hell a politician works harder than Louie.
Louie the Air Thief.
Hargraves is not a fan.

Louis is a killer. Paid a million too much, but that's not really entirely the point right now, is it.

Wow..
This new douchebag 'Hargraves'' guy sounds a lot like that Blob guy that used to come around..
.. you know, condescending, not listening to reason, stands by a statement for years even when proven wrong, and totally unwilling to listen to the other side of a debate without resorting to personal attacks, rails at a position almost as bad as Dude..

What’s tough for you to understand Sunshine?
Paying three 4th line guys a total of 13.35 million annually on your cap hit is stupid.
Hargraves has a knife and fork. Would you like him to cut up your food for you too?

Yes and like Blob, he responds to "whiners and complainers" and creates strawmen like: "people say 'it’s a good contract'"
Not to mention trolling like Blob with the ole 17+ career minutes-per-gm Sutter is a 4th liner...
Obviously our old friend is back on the sauce!
Time for a "Should the Mods Change Hargraves' Handle Back to Blob" poll?
