Nope. This team was announced on Monday. These are th eguys who are going. Höglander did not make the cut.
He's pretty decent for his age, but this is not a J20 team, this is the national team. I would say that he is not even close to making the cut, even though they have only picked players playing in Sweden this time, due to travel restrictions, etc. Had all players in the KHL and the Swiss league also been available, he would be even further away from a shot.

Sorry I should have been clearer, I meant pencilled in with the Canucks.

Yeah... too early. I think he needs at least one more year. Whether in the S- or AHL depends on what aspects of his game they want to focus on. Perhaps the AHL actually makes more sense in this particular case. To see if he can survive in a narrow rink with the more physical play.

Agree Per there’s no need to rush these kids. Let them cook another year.

Hogs been driving play like crazy vs men in the shl, he needs to start playing with nhl skill guys, his 2 way game is nhl ready, same as pod, both these guys need to be in the nhl by the end of the year. Overcooking is fine if the team is gonna suck, but there’s a bunch of high end skill on the Canucks now, and lots of insulation for these guys.

Hoglander isn’t good enough to play in the NHL the coming season, based on a guys opinion who actually watches him play. Bring him over to try out absolutely it there’s absolutely no rush. Podkolzin will finish his Russian season. Then if he doesn’t re up over there, he’ll be here to try out. His lack of offence is alarming though. I like a lot about his game but at the end of the day you’d hope to see some numbers pile up.

Certainly possible. He’s a good prospect. Per, who is watching these games thinks he needs more seasoning. I don’t mind Button but I’m curious how much he watches these prospects after they are drafted. He comments on hundreds of these guys in all the Canadian cities and likely in some US markets too.

Either way good to see him break his goose egg. What’s he up to? 6 points in 10 games now? Not too shabby.

As an asside one of the many kids the Chef hates for no reason, Philip Broberg is off to a good start.

Pearson and Edler aren’t returning after next season unless they take large pay cuts. I could see Edler doing that, but not Pearson. So even though Pearson starts the year with Bo, getting Hog some games in the compressed season in the top nine if he seems at all ready seems likely. I also think one of Rathbone or Juolevi will ideally be paired with Schmidt in the top four over Edler if one of them seem at all capable. Edler could be mostly used in the third paIr and moved up to the second pair with Schmidt late in tight games. Next season a number of prospects will likely get a good chance to play and gain experience while veterans are still around.

Effff LE and bring in Hog and shelter him.

2021 season will be weird so go with the flow.

The question we need to ask is if Hog is better than LE on the 3rd line?

LE won’t be in the top nine, will he?

My winger depth would be something like this:

Miller...Boeser
Pearson....MacEwen
Roussel...Virtanen
Motte....Hawryluk
Hoglander....Sutter
Bailey....Lind
Michaelis...Jasek
Gadjovick...Lockwood
Baertschi....Eriksson
Ferland (LTIR)

With Hoglander hopefully splitting time with Roussel in a condensed season.

Höglander should definitely be invited to camp. Whether he can make the cut though is highly questionable imho.

There's a lot to like about this guy, and he has been outstanding in junior hockey.

He is smart, he has got sick skills (I mean, not Petey level, but...) and he has a lot of attitude, even a bit of a mean streak.
For a small guy, he plays a very physical game. But that is exactly what might hurt him if he moves to the NHL too soon.

The guy is only 176 cm tall! Or 5 foot 9 for those still using medieval measurements.
Add to that that he is barely 20 (turns 20 on Dec 20th) and still hasn't proven himself convincingly in the SHL.

Playing at the junior level, he's been a ppg player or even better. 11 points in 7 games at the WJC and a force to be reckoned with.
Last season in the SHL he had 16 points in 40 games and was a -5 for the season.
It's better now, 6 points in 11 games and a +3, but then you need to think of the transition to a narrow rink and more punishing d-men, which makes it harder for a smallish player to succeed in the NHL than in the SHL, where the wide rink leaves more room for a smart and versatile skater.

I think he is a great prospect, but I think it is too early for him to play in the NHL.
He needs to show that he can dominate in the SHL first, and he is not quite there yet.
Now, if he keeps getting better during this season and then has a great camp, sure. But I doubt that that will happen.
Maybe next year.

Oh, or here's an idea, what if you could make a transplant of Höglander's head and hands onto Virtanen's body?
