Very shitty article actually, in particular this part:
"Vancouver's front office seems to have made significant errors in dealing the aforementioned Bonino and young defender Adam Clendening in a package to Pittsburgh to acquire Brandon Sutter, and dealing a first-round draft pick in Jared McCann to snap up physical blue liner Erik Gudbranson from Florida.
Both transactions were designed to address a perception of defensive softness -- but the exchange of top-end skill for grit rarely works out in the long term."
Don't even know where to begin on that!
Although there was one sentence I did enjoy:
"Canucks should be worrying far less about convincing themselves or their fan base that they will be competing for a Stanley Cup next season and instead focus on how competitive they are in two-to-three years when their future core is on the rise."

Damn right they did. Other than a few delusional trolls the entire hockey world and fans throughout the league are laughing at Elmer and the Aquilinis. Fucking mess, reminds me of the Jack Gordon era

Now Elmer is sitting by watching 2 more players present with potential mumps symptoms (Hutton and Rodin) as Minnesota and LA make moves. Two teams that people figured the Canucks should be dealing with. Unless there is some rule saying players can't be traded during a team's bye-week, Benning missed the boat by not making deals this past week. The SC window closed 4 years ago, Gillis missed it. The rental window is rapidly closing and now Jimbo is missing it.

Yeah Elmer asleep at the wheel again. I can't see him not getting the boot at seasons end. Get rid of everyone from Linden on down. Maybe hang onto Doug Lidster.

Okay... so supposing Benning were to have traded folks before mumps started presenting in the dressing room. If you do that trade with him and find out that the player you traded for ended up carrying the mumps with him (contagious stage is highest before symptoms present) to the new dressing room he ends up infecting, how do you think you would view Mr. Benning? You don't think there wouldn't be accusations and questions about just what Jim knew before trading these guys? That is supposing he would have known enough to move those guys out before they started presenting symptoms. If it ended up happening that Benning spread the mumps (even unknowingly/unwittingly) do you not think that his name would become mud among his peers? Gillis got ostracized for less.
Mumps happen. Dumb Canuck luck, is all. Hopefully Benning can salvage the situation. If it wasn't clear to him before that this season is a write-off, this must make it so now.

Mumps happen
Peculiar how they happened to us right now.
Dumb Canuck luck, mmm
We seem to have a lot of that.
Not suggesting anything.
Think I'll buy a Lotto ticket this week.

No. You can have the mumps for almost 3 weeks with no symptoms. You trade an apparently healthy player and he gets sick next week that's not on the former team. In reality they could have traded someone January 31st and it might have been Feb 20th before they actually appeared sick. To suggest that some GM's would be blaming Benning and thinking he did it on purpose is retarded. What's your other name, Michael Moore?

Old man tong G chimes in on the pro-sports-elderly Sedins.

Canucks analyst Tony Gallagher says it has been really tough watching the Sedins on the ice this season, as their play has declined. Tony says he wouldn't be surprised if they decide to walk away after this season.
IF we are being truly honest about the Sedins and the situation they are in, I don't know how loyal they'd be after the past few seasons and especially the current one, where this team is clearly rebuilding.
They have moments of brilliance but at the same time they look there rookie selves, slow and underwhelming, committing a lot of errors and generally playing a slower game, they can't be 1st liners anymore, they should be on the 2nd or even 3rd line on a contender to be truly effective.
IF they do come back for another year, that shows a hella loyalty, knowing it's going to be another rough year in the transition to a younger team.
But on the other hand I wouldn't be too shocked if they agreed to waive their NTC's to go to a contender next season as well, like the NYR etc. Where the Canucks recieve a good chunk of prospects/picks/coupla roster players.

Unless it can be proven that either, or both, of them can contribute individually and well, I don't see much hope in this area.
Takes two to tango, BUT NOT, in this case.

Gallagher was also saying the other day that he knew for a fact that at least two teams were willing to take both twins and their full cap hits but Benning didn't want to ask them to waive nor did he like the return which was a handful of non first round picks. Then he said such a move would have to wait until the summer but Benning had to adjust his expectations on a return. At least I think it was Gallagher but it could have been some internet rumour site. I didn't cite it earlier cause it sounded like crap.
We can all speculate that over the summer there could be a handful of teams with 14 million in cap room that would love to add them for one big push. And it could happen. The twins have said if asked they would consider it. I don't think they would waive to any team other than a legit contender and many of them don't have all their draft picks and are scarce in high end prospects due to successive years of high finishes. So ya, I think the return could be like a first and a prospect but not much else.
I think it will depend upon a few things.
1) does Miller come back
2) do we draft a high rated centre
3) do we land a high ranked college FA or two
But boy on boy would that ever make the Eriksson signing stink more than it already does.

If the Sedins decide to move to a contender in the summer, Eriksson and Edler would follow suit ASAP, more so Eriksson imo as he has no ties here really.

Sounds about right.
Especially since Tony's only source left seems to be Gaglardi.
