I’ll go on record as saying I was all for the Myers signing in ‘19. He struggled at times his first year, but his playoffs in the bubble were absolutely brutal. He looked really slow and could not stay out of the box. He became a liability.
He was decent the next couple years, but clearly not earning his contract, and his last year with Green/Boudrou was god awful. I could not wait to unload him.

Obviously Tocc/Foote/Gonch have done wonders for Myers’ game. You could never fault his work ethic both on and off the ice, and he’s very well liked among the core players, it seemed letting him go would ruffle a few feathers.

I found myself hopeful he’d return at a discount, and applaud both sides for striking a deal that works.

Funny, I loved Myers in the playoffs that year.

He was our only guy putting the fear of God into the opposition.

Both things are true. He couldn't stay out of the box, but his play was very good when he was on the ice during that playoffs.

Myers played on that kind of contract where the player was far better than replacement level, but not to the level of the cap hit. Overpaid by somewhere between $1 and $3M depending on whether it was a good or bad year for him. And everyone knew it at the time -- he was a 4-5 for the Jets, but the pickings were very slim in that class. And when your team is a loser, you have nothing but money to attract free agents.

I am hopeful that Myers will maintain the level of play he showed last year -- then it will be a quality contract. Age catches up to us all, but I think Myers is getting wiser with his play. The mistakes like game 7's try-to-force-it-up-the-wall-through-people things will always still happen from time to time, but it is much less now. Curiously, it is possible that his overall skills have been depreciating a bit in the past 2-3 seasons, but all this has done is caused him to play more inside himself, which is a good thing. (This could also be coaching). But there is more poise these days, less Jovo-like running around, more intentional use of his remaining assets (e.g., size, reach).

I don't mind him as a 4.

Myers was a team worst -5 on a fairly successful bubble playoff squad. He took 12 minors in 10 games and I thought really struggled to find his footing. Maybe he had an injury, can’t recall for sure. I just remember Edler, Quinn and to a lessor degree Stecher having a strong showing, while Myers looked really lost, unlike his play this last Spring, however.

Have the Canucks announced any players attending camp on PTOs yet?

In the playoffs, the Asshole Factor outweighs the Plus/Minus stat.

Especially on a team lacking assholes and with wide-eyed young stars.

Yep. He had a solid regular season that year but he was a tire fire in the bubble.

I am against the Chaos Giraffe, and all for the War Giraffe.

But, sometimes I will admit to enjoying the transition when we saw it every 20 games or so… he would get turnstiled and Bambi the ice, then later in the period, he would carry the puck deep and do the large man, slo motion circle deep in the offensive zone, and watching BOTH teams be confused was entertaining..

I am in the pro JB camp as well, but I know there's lots of doods out there who blame him for everything and think he's the worst GM ever. That being said, I did wish that this current mgmt team or ownership would have kept JB on as an AGM and make him head of the scouting dept. That was always his greatest strength/asset. JB is kinda like Trudeau & Trump, probably the post polarizing figure in our franchise's history (either hate him or luv him).

The doods here are pretty stubborn and are generally pretty firm in their opinions. It is what it is, I guess that's what makes this board interesting & fun with all the different opinions.

I will just leave the doods with this.

Benning - The Unsung Hero of this team. He deserves those kind of accolades. No GM, I repeat No GM in the Canucks pantheon of GM’s has ever managed this level of a trifecta:

No. 1 centre - Demko
No. 1 D-man - Hughes (first Canuck Norris trophy winner)
No. 1 Goalie - Demko

Along with

An enviable no. 2 centre - Miller
At top elite winger - Boeser
And a goalie of the future - Silovs

No GM has ever reached those heights. Unbelievable! I’m outside of myself, flabbergasted by it all. Genius
