Nice to have you onboard Mëds

In my experience, using military to crush opposition is typical of dictatorships and generally frowned upon in democracies.Mëds wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 7:52 amPer, I'm confused as to why you have a problem with the part you quoted in bold.....are you advocating for anarchy and wanton destruction of life and property?Per wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 3:15 am
What Trump and his minions tend to forget though is that a lot of the shit he spews and tweets is available for all to see.
So, straight from the horse’s (ass’s?) mouth:
{youtube]video[/youtube]
He first talks about deploying the national guard, then at roughly 1.01:
”If a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States’ military and quickly solve the problem for them.”
Compare this to former republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who participated in a BLM march to show his support.Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis, Former Secretary of Defense under Trump
"Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people -- does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society."
Oh, I’ve had many conversations with anarchists. They’re a bit naïve though.Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 12:40 pm Lol, you don't have "conversations" with anarchists...
I knew you were in bed with them, surprised you actually talked to them though.Per wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 12:56 pmOh, I’ve had many conversations with anarchists. They’re a bit naïve though.Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 12:40 pm Lol, you don't have "conversations" with anarchists...

Exactly, hell, yours truly definitely had anarchistic tendencies once upon a time.
I fully agree with you. However I think it's a good thing to have the bullets in reserve to keep the ballot winners honest.Per wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 12:56 pmOh, I’ve had many conversations with anarchists. They don’t want governments or law enforcement.
I try to explain that that creates a power vaccuum that will be filled by exactly the people you don’t want in power.
Better change society through ballots than bullets.

The purpose of the military is to protect and guarantee the security of the citizens of the country they serve.
They are not meant as a tool to infringe on their first amendment rights.
That’s also why the Posse Comitatus Act was passed in 1878; to prevent the use of military within the USA by the federal government. Upholding the law is mainly a matter for the states.

But Trump is not interested in having a conversation with the protesters. He just wants to crush them.
Politics is no longer about uniting the people. Hasn't been for years.Or in the words of his own former defense secretary:

But I’m sure that possibility never crossed Ole Bonespurs’s mind. Better hide in the bunker and call in the troops.

Yeah, this is a good place to let off some steam. Nothing too seriously. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 10:55 am I've found that leaning all of my political opinions to the exact opposite of whatever Per thinks is the most accurate way to interpret and form opinions on current affairs.
This way i can grab all the latest headlines right out of Creepers B&G without having to subject myself to the mainstream media sources
