This is what people don't understand in this market.

Had the Canucks taken the son of Keith, Calgary would have taken Juolevi who probably plays sheltered minutes being a pretty good defence core in Calgary and people here would be complaining that the Canucks could have had a potential stud d-man.

Juolevi is 180 with his gear on. He wasn't making any NHL team this year.

I doubt people would complain about having a 200 lb asshole power forward with great hands.

OJ is certainly not ready. I agree with you there.

That 200lb asshole power forward would have been back in London with OJ this year and we wouldn't have seen more than 10 games from him.

Personally either pick would have been a pick of need.

There were warts, according to some inside Canuckville, in Taychoooks game that they felt would not translate into NHL success. If year one is any indication then I don't think their is any question they were wrong. I also agree that he would not have been given the same opportunity in Vancouver, primarily because of his early lack of playing a 200' game and undisciplined penalties. Credit, or desperation, led to the Flames seeing something in him and giving him the rope he needed, and he has rewarded them.

But that does not translate into Juolevi being a bad pick. Different player, different position. Only time will tell if Juolevi is top four, perhaps top pairing. Several years will be needed on this one.

But to ignore that Taychook is exactly the type of player we needed is silly. Just as it is to ignore that we needed a potential top pairing Dman.

To me the mistake of the draft was Edmonton going for a forward instead of a Dman.

Always pick best player available. Pool Party was easily that. Unless the Oilers were getting extra assets I make that pick 10/10

And theirin lies the problem. They didn't try to turn that pick into extra assets.
