I think he’s butt hurt with Laffs over them trying to off load him for Rantanen m, but Chicago? That team has a long ways to go. Marner I imagine would rather want to go to a team that is closer to winning.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 3:46 pm Agree with Doc on most points. Re: 2025 UFA Market
They have a great young D. He plays with Bedard. Add in another centre, draft another high end forward or use that high pick to poach a young centre. Hell, get Brock too and if Spencer Knight gets some traction its going to be a playoff team.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 4:27 pmI think he’s butt hurt with Laffs over them trying to off load him for Rantanen m, but Chicago? Yeah, that would seem to be a great place for him to sign. Reminds me of when Brian Campbell signed there for 7+ million prior to the young core making the jump and him winning a cup in Chicago. If their rebuild doesn't pan out the likely result would be him moved with retention to a team loading up for a run, so he could end up with a shot either way.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 6:33 pmThey have a great young D. Re: 2025 UFA Market
Bennet -- his style and position -- would help this team considerably. But there's a real high chance of overpayment and an anchor contract. Can't believe he wouldn't be targeted. Still, he'd be a complement on a team missing a principal.
Marner is the only forward in the group that is a principal. I think Canuck fans instinctively downgrade Leaf players. But really, he's been one of the most consistent playmakers in the league for years, and he's probably got a minimum of 4 or 5 more excellent seasons in him. On the one hand, he's benefitted from his linemates. On the other, I wonder what he might look like with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. And he's still pretty popular in Toronto -- a God he might say -- so taking him would be, if nothing else, scores on the troll factor.

Canucks signed for next season with cap hits (in millions):
Forwards:
Petey: 11.6
Debrusk: 5.5
Garland: 4.95
Chytil: 4.437,5
Joshua: 3.25
Blueger: 1.8
Sherwood: 1.5
Hoglander: 3
O'Connor: 2.5
Lekkerimaki: .918
Aman: .825
Total: 40.280
Defence:
Hughes: 7.850
Hronek: 7.250
M Petey: 5.5
Myers: 3
E Petey: .870
Mancini: .838
Total: 25.3
Goalies:
Demko: 5
Lankinen: 4.5
Total: 9.5
Dead Cap: 5.5 mil
Total Cap hit: 80.6.
With a salary cap of 95.5 mil, that would leave just under 15 million to sign 1 more D man. and probably 2 forwards. Looking at the contracts, most are fairly reasonable. Think Hogs is overpaid by about .5 mill, perhaps M Petey too. I really wish they could have signed Lankinen for a million less but he has earned it too. Baring a trade, can't see them bringing in Marner. For the record, they can't trade OEL's buyout? If they can't, it is pretty hypocritical that you can trade someone's LTIR, even if they have (unofficially) retired but not a buyout.
Someone suggested earlier that they re-sign Forbert for about the same cap hit, I would be fine with that. Maybe sign a Nelson or Bennett depending on cost? I would love to bring in Marner to play with Pettersson but just can't see it with how much cap is left. Assuming the Canucks do not do any major trades between now and July 1st. I am also assuming Chytil is not done for.

SureChef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 2:55 pm“Better” can be argued. The defence has improved but the forward group is thinner than Brad Ference’s arms with only Lekkerimaki and his birdbones as our only legitimate forward prospect. Raty is the next Brendan Gaunce. The goalie situation could be in peril with Demko’s injury problems and pending UFA status after next season, will they walk him to UFA and lose him for nothing like we are about to with Boeser and Suter? The prospect will be utter garbage once Willander has graduated.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 2:46 pm The prospect pool is better. Its deeper and they have a ton of cap space. The team is also better.

If you trade for the players rights in the off season does that mean you can sign them for the 1 extra year?

Agree with most of this post, but think your assessment of Mpete is wrong. He is a bargain for what he bring, and his contract is going to age like a fine wine.theman wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 9:50 am Canucks signed for next season with cap hits (in millions):

Really? I would have thought that would have been doable thing since the player can’t just run and sign anywhere they choose, and you paid the price of acquisition.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Free agency status begins July 1, so the right being acquired prior to that would mean the new team would technically be the re-signing team.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 11:57 pmWhat if you trade them in the off season before July 1st Doc?Mëds wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:35 pmReally?
