Wasn't aware of Demkos particulars with respect to injury history.
From what I can gather post (brief) search it's not overall very confidence inspiring.
Ffs.
It's always something with this team.....
The hip surgery was preventative. If my memory still works, he had a hitch/burr in his hips. The Surgery cleared it up, and gave him the full theortical motion in his hips, allowing him to butterfly better. It was never an injury. The best analogy i heard was its like a pitcher getting Tommy John surgery before the elbow blows out.

Goalie guru Kevin Woodley talks Demko, Ian Clark, and Marko Torenius with a couple of knuckleheads.

Joshua (new era, still fits the description) and all the guys who were power forward types whose PPG went up,
DJ81 is a good one, totally forgot about him.

Jagr, Primeau, Tocchet, Fraser, Probert, Clark, Lucic, Lindros, Brindamour, Shanahan, Deadmarsh, Tkachuk x 3, and on and on.
I'd argue Big Looch and Tocchet blossomed a little later. They made the NHL quick because they had the size and willingness to play the tough guy role early on, their offence came a bit later.
And " Virts" was not a power forward.
I remember Ray Ferraro saying that the physical power forward side never came easy for Virts and I would agree. I will stand up for Virts and say he did show signs of becoming a decent power forward at times though. I remember during an exhibition game, he threw a big hit on McDavid and got the Oil players all rattled up. There was also a time when Kornwall came across the ice and had him lined up for a hit, Virts saw him coming and just did a reverse hit and knocked Kornwall down like it was nothing. He then gave Kornwall the stare down. Too bad, we never saw enuff of that. Even after a few years here, instead of taking the lead to throw some hits and/or initiating to get some energy going for the team, he seemed to be a passenger most nites and take things for granted. He seemed happy to be the team's little bro, just be a cheerleader and follow and ride the coattails of our big guns.
I thought Virts was going to take another step forward after that 2019-20 season when he scored 18G. I thought he was a better player than Brockstar that season and would have broke 20Gs if not for the Covid shutdown. Unfortunately, I think Jake thought the season was over and he got lazy during that Covid down time, so whatever mojo he had, he lost in the bubble playoffs. He has never looked the same since and we know all about the off ice issues that led to a premature ending to his NHL career. Too bad, if had any kind of commitment to the game and solid work ethic, he could have had a similar career to Sam Lafferty. A Lafferty who can hammer the puck like that? Most teams would take a guy like that no doubt.

If he's foregoing playing for Latvia, in place of prepping for starting in net for us - then I like the guy even more.
(hope that's the case)

And in further news:
Stolen from somewhere on the web.....
“Initially, it was planned to register goalkeeper Artūrs Šilov for the tournament, who, unfortunately, did not manage to recover quickly enough from knee ligament inflammation, which prevents him from participating in the tournament games with maximum performance,” they said.
That’s far from ideal news for anyone, not for Silovs, who is expected to serve as Thatcher Demko’s back this season, nor for the Canucks, who already have anxiety about Demko’s health; the Canucks have yet to comment, but it’s expected that the Canucks’ No. 1 will not be ready for training camp next month.

I watched this documentary of the 2011 Stanley Cup riots by that Grizzlies girl and I couldn't help but to think the same thing. It brought back some painful memories.
- 2X as close as u can get to a Cup, yet we come out on losing end. Only 2 riots to show for it.
- No matter how bad our team performs, we never get that 1st overall pick to get that generational talent. Our scouting dept/GMs have a history of drating the dud when another great player is still available on the board (ie: Jagr, Tkachuk (2X), Marty Brodeur, Pasternak, and a multitude of others).
- All these other hockey hotbeds have a Cup already, yet none for us still: Tampa Bay (2X), Carolina, Florida, Los Angles (2X), Anaheim, Vegas, etc.
Nucks fans (all of us here) know nothing, but suffering.

It's because the franchise can never really commit to the deep suck. You have to embrace it, relish it if you will.
You have to stand in front of the mirror and wish to be the worst that you can be
Remember how pathetic the coilers were? That was shameful and the fact they filtered through numerous 1st O/A's until they found their own Crosby/Lemieux/Gretzky/McGayvid...
The league had to change the rules because of their blatant exploitation of the system. They're the most ghettolicious welfare franchise of all time

I look at the shit that went on, that stood in this teams way.
1989- Otto kicked it in.
1994- Less iron.........Lafayette and Gelinas People forget Marty struck iron too. Oh and thanks Terry Gregson
2002-04- Make a save. For fuck sakes. Oh and let Brad May beat Steve More's ass seconds after the cheap hit. Bertuzzi tossed. Let alone Jovo getting an inexplicable double minor vs Calgary near the end of regulation. How good would a two eyed Mattias Ohlund have been on this iteration of the team?
2011- Finish Nashville in 5. And no need for Rome, Biter and Lappy to wake up a sleeping Giant up two to none. Make a save FrogWop. Sedin is Nglish for the businesses end of my stick if you punch me again.
2024- a bounce, a healthy goalie, a healthy Brock, and oh yeah finish the Preds earlier.
Fuck your picks and scorched earth rebuild.

No more cursed than Buffalo, and at least we live in a more pleasant city.

You can have deep suck, I'll take some big time luck which with each expansion addition becomes more and more vital to winning...
You really think out sucking 31 other teams is the way to winning a Cup?
