$47 mill on 5 forwards, leaves them with 36 if the cap goes up to, say 83 next year, or about 2 mil per player to round off their roster with only 2 proven NHL dmen signed.

This is where Marleau's contract sucks ass and why they should have either traded Nylander for some d-help or not signed Tavares and used that money towards a defenceman or two.

Edit - going to be interesting to see how Laine and Matthews contract situations work out - are they each going to wait for the other to sign?

Jets are just as fucked up - if not more.

All those teams have something the Leaves don't - elite defencemen who can shut down Matthews/Tavares and Kadri in a 7 game series.

Sure, they'll probably be able to roll over a team like BOS, BUF, CBJ, and also PIT (maybe) but I do not believe they can get past the other 5 listed above.

And don't forget about that cult in Minny

And no, Marner is not getting 12 or 13 million. The highest paid winger is Kane with 10.5 million.

And that's with no one traded. I don't mind seeing Brown gone to save 1.5 million approx.(Very easy trade).
