Per; If you really are as concerned as you seem to be about the human element advancing global warming, then you must be concerned about burning COAL.
And yet I never hear you say anything negative about what the Chinese Communist Government is doing, and LYING about! They put out propaganda about shutting down plants but say nothing about the hundreds more that are being built and planned to be built. Do you just use Google or do you have an uncensored web browser?
I could say so much more on this thread but I try and keep it to a dull roar.
Maybe a slight swing to the right may bring a little accountability to world matters.....

Now sure how true that is. Everything I've read about this guy is that he is obsessed with winning. He may have started it out as a publicity stunt for his brand, but I don't think he wants to 'lose'. I'm going to guess that running for president is so far out of his area of expertise that he really has no clue how to win at this point. Rather than lose, I expect him to drop out due to some 'conspiracy' by the 'elites' against him.

Agree. He is going to blame his loss on rigged elections, the media (the worst people EVER, BELIEVE ME) and whatever else is handy. He will be pissed and will not go into that good night in any way quiet.

Oh, yeah. I firmly believe that fossil fuels must be phased out asap. I realise you can't ban them overnight, but the sooner we stop using them the better.

And the reason People in Western Europe let out far less CO2 than North Americans is that we've already started. Still a long way to go, but... I would expect that by 2030 most cars will be electric or use fuel cells.
In Sweden some 90% of apartments and 50% of one family houses use communal heating, often based on excess heat from factories, garbage incineration or wood pellets. Geothermal heating is also very popular. Oil heating is now down to 2% and coal way less than 1%. We're getting there.

China's current energy situation is unsustainable, and the coal consumption is not just emitting crazy amounts of CO2. Because they don't have proper smokestack filters, the air in many Chinese cities is so polluted it's a health hazard breathing there. But China is a dictatorship, that doesn't give a shit about what you are I say, and afaik there are no Chinese posters on this here hockey bulletin board, so discussing Chinese politics would be rather moot.

The good news in China is that as there is now a growing middle class, there has also started to pop up environmentalist groups. Sure, they lack clout and the authorities do crack down on them, but still. Even the Chinese must have air to breathe and water to drink. Once the issue has been raised, I'm sure awareness will start to spread. It's going to take quite some time though, switching more than a billion peope over to renewable energy sources while simultanously attempting to raise them out of poverty is no easy task.

But I guess as long as we trade with them, we can push for change as part of the trade agreements.
