Today's announcement was granting the Eskay Creek mine permit.

Eskay operated as an underground mine, one of Canada's richest. Ore was direct shipped without concentration to smelters in the Orient.

Today the government patted themselves on the back for granting a permit for the mine to reopen as an open pit operation. No big deal.

Government also trumpeted the cooperation of the Tahltan Band.

The Band held a vote about a month ago on whether they would support the mine. A few days before the vote, Skeena Resources announced an up front cash payment of $40 million to the Band. Roughly $10 thousand for each Band member.

Surrey level extortion.

I cringe at what they might eventually get when there is a new pipeline to the coast.
