After that signing took place, many speculated that Fletcher and Wilson had actually confused Finger for Kurt Sauer, who was their intended target.

Cliff Fletcher wrote:A lot of people in Toronto are asking me, 'Who the hell is Jeff Finger?' simply because they haven't seen him play.
Even after seeing him play, I think most people in Toronto were still asking that question.
Even better was the story that Cliff Fletcher was hired by mistake, they (MLSE) actually meant to hire Chuck Fletcher!

Do you think leaves fans are longing for the days of JFJr yet?

Have you been to Cleveland?
Or Buffalo?

Toronto is one of the cleanest, safest big cities you'll find anywhere.
I take that you have never travelled outside of Toronto... That explains why okcanuck feels that...
I wasn't even born in Toronto. It's a fantastic.

You know those lists that rank Vancouver as an amazing city? One of the best in the world? Toronto is always right there on the list.

How the hell does a GM, the scouts, and the coach, screw up that badly?

How was there not at least one person in the Maple Laughs organization that picked up on the fact that Finger was not Sauer?

What a complete shit show of an organization!
That story was not true. Obnly ESPN agreed to run with it. TSN/Sportsnet KNIC ignored it because of how silly it was.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

After Quinn's departure from TO, the Leaves only made the playoffs once in like 8 years.
In fairness, there was no cap during Quinn's years and they were top 5 in payroll.
In fairness, the club has been sorely, sorely lacking a Captain, and a leadership core since the Sundin era, when Quinn was in charge.

The cap has little to do with the demise of the Leaves over the past 5-8 years.

What's up with the leaves having a shamrock cover half their jerseys. A helmet patch wasn't enough.does that mean they love Pat more?
The only HW the Canucks need

Isn't that why brought in vets like Komisarek, Clarkson, Armstrong, Connolly, Giguere, Beauchemin, Blake and Robidas among others?

The leaves have made big splashes in free agency for veteran help nearly ever off season, even after the cap came into place, and it has rarely worked.

Thinking back to all those flops just brings a tear to my eye... :)

So you're admitting that they have no leadership. That their top paid players are not good character players who can lead by on-ice example. AND you're blaming it on the fact that they can't overspend anymore to get players of that pedigree.

Either way your logic is skewed badly.

The leaves, under Dave Nonis, have dumped $29.5 M into Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, Clarkson, and Gardiner. That's 42.75% of their total cap into 5 players. None of whom are leadership material. 2 of whom are complete morons. 2 who have badly underachieved to date. And above all, $15M in 2 "leaders" who can't lead.

This would be a fantastic place to cite examples and then compare them to the UFA signings they've bought during the cap years.

But why put in an effort right?

The leaves leadership core even looks handicapped.

So signing Roberts as a UFA did not help?
