He would be an UFA.

He wouldn't automatically be on the Devils, he would be free to sign where he chooses and to whatever teams wants him.

Without question. The earliest I see him back in the NHL is 2017 when only the Devils have to approve his return.

And that's maybe if he signs with them, or maybe a sign and trade if that's allowed.

The league is reintroducing compensation for hiring management/coaching staff under contract. Some obvious problems to me, what happens if a team does not have the requisite draft pick available? What happens if a team wants to pull a Vancouver and hire a plethora of new staff?

It only applies to persons under contract so not a Babcock situation. I assume too if someone has been fired, but still under contract, there must be some sort of exemption, one would think.

Anyway, a throw back of sorts but I liked it better when teams could negotiate.

I don't see what this has to do with the leaves - but the leaves and Ford would be the same pile. Maybe they could just not take their trash out to the HHOF.
