Drafted knowing he had two seasons of KHL to play and was destined to be the most NHL ready of the picks when he finally arrived in Vancouver but was detailed by limited KHL play. Pushed into the NHL, as many prospects of the time, to appease fandom who couldn't handle a rebuild. Creatively stifled by coaching.
Was just another in the sea of granlands, with the new Ufa signings there wasn't room for all and someone was going to be lost to waivers.
A victim of numbers and now a god damn fucking oiler for fucks sakes.

He probably wasn't going to make the team anyway.
He's dynamite down in Abby though, but he'd back in Russia after another year of that.
Hey, we need picks.

At least the Coilers are even farther over the cap than before. Sorry Podz, but now I really hate him.

The raisin making some cap space for waiver wire scavenging I think. We were right up against it, this opens up cash for a possible upgrade where they can take advantage of the more retarded general managers
These guys know how to manage I'll give them that
Pod is 23. His ceiling is now like what...a 3rd line winger? Lacks the quickness and intuition for PK. Not enough

It would seem likely this deal was the end result of conversations involving Kulak, Ceci, Poolman et cetera.
Nothing palatable there (thank goodness) so we ended up here.
Meh....

Sprong’s acquisition made moving another forward very likely. As I explained earlier in the thread, the Canucks could not have a 23 man opening night roster that included Aman and did not use LTIR without moving a player. Lack of no-waiver-needed organizational center depth makes a 5th center-capable player on the roster nearly essential.
I thought that the player should be Hoglander because of a better return and because I am having trouble seeing how he will fit into the future when the Canucks pay him an RFA w/arb salary, but Podkolzin was the primary alternate move if the Canucks wanted a more stable floor on a best lineup. I thought a “late rounder” would be his value, and that’s what he brought back — something at the end of the 4th round.
I wish it wasn’t the Oilers, since I think there is a non-zero chance Pod will be a contributor. But c’est la vie; the Canucks likely wagered they’d rather see the Oilers with Podz than Holloway, and I think this deal likely cements Holloway as a Blue.

Thumbs down on the Podz trade. I thought he was coming around and was looking like he could have a breakout year like Hoggy. I guess after mgmt signed a bunch of wingers who they think can better help the team more right now, there was simply no room for Podz and he became expendable.

Yeah he always looked disinterested when I saw him play in Abby.

I liked his potential and never really understood why Tocchet didn't like him. He has something against these Russians. If this is helping the Oilers he should've been worth more than a 4th. But in the end, he will not be a difference maker in them going deep.
It should be noted that it is Ottawa's 4th that the Canucks get. Still not a great return.

What was the rush on this? Maybe if it was more value than he's worth like a 2RP you figure you have to move on it but a 4th barely moves the needle. And with Edmonton situation how are we getting "fair value" on any trade and not fleecing them?
What if one of these new acquisitions doesn't pan out? It's great to hear Sprong say he's excited to learn how to play in his own end for like his 4th team but there's no guarantee that's going to pan out.
Why not let Podz have training camp to force a move?
It's a low end move but still seems like a head scratcher to me
