I think I'm off the OEL hype train. As many have said, there's a good chance that contract becomes a bad one - if it isn't already. Even if lots of bad contracts go the other way, those contracts are up in the next 2 years anyways.

Whereas Barrie is going to sign a deal that, I believe, will be a good contract for a RD who flirts with 50 points. And really, that's what we need more than another 50-point LD.

Barrie's gone from talking about $7+mil to the chatter is $5ish mil. He knows he's not getting term.

He's going to be a good, top-4D earning a normal top-4D salary, and finally solidify the right side.

Barrie is less scary

But he’s a weak defender so I wouldn’t count on him solidifying much.

All he costs is cap space.

Thing with Barrie is he'll likely produce 50 points here on D and is a right shot, also probably would take a paycut to play here as he really wants to play in Vancouver.

Short memories - Wasn't too long ago the Canucks had one of least talented defenses in the NHL where no dman could score worth shit except Edler.

I'd love to think we can pattern ourselves after Chicago and Pittsburgh but the last 3 Champions might be a better comparables, all of whom took a while to get their Cups. Pittsburgh boasts two generational stars and Chicago was flat out deep right from the get-go with little to no holes in their lineup. Our depth is nowhere near.

Quite frankly I'm not sure what we are yet. The top third of our lineup are simply magnificent, but as good as they are the bottom two-thirds is just as bad, brutally awful to be honest and needs a LOT of work (even more so if we lose 2 or all of our UFA's). Our weaknesses were painfully obvious against Vegas. I would like to see OEL here, he'd make a difference for sure but at such a cost I don't know if he alone solves our issues. To get the kind of depth that Chicago had and Tampa has now, it's going to take time, patience and the ability to perpetually keep the cupboard full. That and flexible coin.

I believe they are going hard after him because they know Benning is fucked and both those teams weaknesses right now is goaltending. I got a feeling Marky is Alberta bound and Benning is waiting to see where he lands then the dominos will fall. Demko to Arizona will then have to change to one of Hoglander or Pidkokzin to Arizona. Just Elliotte style spit ballin’ here, but not spitting on Elliottes balls like Doyle does ferociously

Heard some shit on the radio yesterday how Calgary has $17 mill. in cap space, but needs to sign 12 more players. Edmonton has less space needs to sign RNH & others.
And then there's the having to live amongst Albortionists, can't see Marky groovin to that.
