I can think of several. But agreed it was certainly disappointing.

Watch the Caps instead.

They just dusted Messi, Suarez, etal 5-1 on aggregate. Won both games without their best player. Now they're headed for the Concacaf Champions Cup finals.

Also, the top team in the MLS. Sure, the MLS vs top International Premier Leagues is like 3 tiers below the ECHL as compared to the NHL, but... whatever.

White is the colour, soccer is the game.

Bobby Lenarduzzi would be proud.

Lots to choose from indeed.

When combining anticipation, expectation and hope with overall performance based end result, both on and off ice, disappointing describes it on the light end imo.

The fans reward.

Higher ticket prices.

I can't think of one where expectations were higher but crashed this hard with this many off-ice issues. I don't remember there being the same expectation when Messier and Keenan drove the bus into the ditch. I mean, the 94 run was a .500 hockey team in the regular season. They were a .500 team the following season, and then sub .500 the next.....but still made the playoffs both years.

I lost track of the team from from 95-99 when my family moved to the Kootenays and we didn't have TV.

Sheer, total domination. At every level. The kind of season fans of every sports team dreams of. Something we've been dreaming about for our Nucks for 55+ years (had a taste of it in 2011 and a small bit last year).

But what we're witnessing right now with the Caps is nothing short of extraordinary. No matter how low a level the MLS is in relation to the rest of the soccer world it's still a major league with 30 teams. Concacaf Champions Cup is a 20 team tourney consisting of a gauntlet of high quality teams. The Caps haven't won anything yet but so far they've steamrolled through all and anything put in their way, including Messi! And much without their best player no less. The depth is incredible, the confidence and swagger is through the roof. So not used to seeing a team I cheer for dominate at this kind of level. They're so fun to watch right now it's can't-miss TV. Only problem is it's can-miss because of the steaming bullshit.

…..Anyhoo, I came here to talk some big Nucks news, what was that again??

If the Jersey Devils were smart they'd fire Sheldon Keefe immediately and hire Tocc.

It's becoming less should we than when do we. That day's getting closer and closer.

I'd feel a lot better about this right now if the fuckers listened to me and scooped up assets at the deadline over holding on to a couple of guys who'll almost certainly bale and getting M.Petey. How good would it be potentially having three first-rounders right now in the arsenal to add to the Hughes haul? Now that a rebuild is looking more like a necessity than a choice with the way things are trending.

Love that Jannik Hansen continually bemoans the 3 firsts as much as I do. He gets it.

Trevor was right. Too bad they didn't listen to him. We may still have Hughes and Petey and JT and gawd knows who else.

Don’t do this to yourself bro, as long as the Aqualini’s own the team that will never happen. Rebuilds have to be owner approved according to Nonis. They fired Gillis for proposing a rebuild, they fired Linden for suggesting staying patient, building through the draft. It ain’t happening. As Jansen says, it’s one core player “Hughes” and nothing else. Yes, I agree Hughes ain’t signing here, the problem is, I have absolutely zero faith in this management group staying ahead of it, doing what’s best for this organization and fully capitalizing on Hughes asset value. His return value will decrease the closer he becomes a UFA as everyone knows he’s signing with Jersey to play with his bros. They will do the same with Hughes with what they did with Boeser, walk him to UFA, hoping they can sign him. Fruitless.

Tanking would be great cause the 2026 class is a good one!

Something incredible brewing and it's great to see it finally happen.

I was actually trying to point out the similarities of both local clubs. Both were established around the same time and have been mediocre for most of its history (except the Caps did win in 1979).

Even though it looked like the team might be gone without new ownership coming in, the previous one did bring in someone very competent with high-level experience as its director. He slowly and methodically built the club without buying expensive stars (the old owners were always cheap) to shorten the process. And now? Fruits are being borne. I've never seen football of this quality in this city... ever.

They didn't luck their way to the top of the tournament or table in MLS. They're beating most clubs in possession metrics, quality chances and on the scoreboard. Incredible depth, like you said. It's like they're the 15 year old boys and their opponents are the USWNT.

Never thought I say this about soccer... unless it was the world cup or Euro tourneys. This is just so fun to watch.

Apparently, Messi has never suffered back to back losses to any club team... until now.

Not sure if the excitement you and I feel for the Caps right now would be the same if it didn't coincide with the gut punch decline/dismantling of our other major league team. But yeah, agree with everything you wrote. So much fun to watch, it's incredible football. They have so much command of the ball around the box with amazing interplay between each other. And no fluke, too. Just watch the highlights of the past half dozen or so games. Every goal scored literally has 3 or 4 touches before hitting the back of the net. Years past it's just Gauld and White and nothing else. Now everybody on the field are making elite plays with no drop in quality with the subs. Berhalter, Ahmed, Vite, Sabbi, Nelson, Ocampo, Adekube, Ngando, Rios, etc., etc. And what's extra cool is the 3, 4 Canadians contributing significantly. We literally just toyed with Messi and co. Amazing!

Again, a much needed/timely distraction with what's happening with the Nucks shitshow.

So the Canucks should hire Pandolfo.
