Hughes is getting a Norris nod again this year.
Hughes
Makar
Werenski
I’m betting Makar gets it this year. Played more games, more points, and more goals.
The argument for Hughes is the individual season he had in contrast to the Canucks’ incredibly dysfunctional (on multiple levels) campaign and how much he carried the team.
Hughes importance and individual impact to Vancouver is much greater than Makar’s to Colorado.

I would bet on Makar as well - add in the Hughes won last year, and it's "Makar's turn". Hughes had a great season and deserves the nomination (and the win, in my opinion). He carried this team all year, and if a few others had their shit together, he would have ended up with more points and more recognition. He had a great swing through the NY trip and might have picked up more votes there, so ya never know.

I agree with both of you - Hughes is certainly more important to his team than Makar, and is very deserving of this nomination. If he had stayed healthy, I think he would have run away with it.
But this is Makar's year - 30 goals as a defensemen - 92pts overall. Amazing year - and those stats will get him the nod.

M'car will have 5x the votes this year.
Getting nominated is an honour but Cale wins it walking away

Hughes and Werenski had the same value to their respective teams this year... Makar should walk away with it.

I don't think any of us should be surprised by that.

Nope - the more coaches that became available, made him expendable.

RIP Tockey Hockey.
Will Foote walk out the door too? Does Gonchar still do Zoom calls?
This team needs a hard-ass, winning coach like Q, but it wouldn't shock me if the Sedins were somehow promoted to save money and to be gentle on player's feelings...

So much for building chemistry in this organization.
How the fuck does ownership expect to actually build anything when they constantly flip personnel??
Every year, its either 1/2 the players or (if its only 1/3 the players) they flip coaches..
Just fucked. Cant build a culture when you do that.

Well you assume they didn’t try to get him back, I think k the writing was on the wall when they trade JT instead of Pettersson.

Nobody signed by this regime makes it past the 3 year mark.
Watch them bring Mike Sullivan back to Van. LOL.

I don't think Tocchet was a bad coach but I often wondered if he was the right coach for this group of players.
Agree with those who say once JT was traded instead of Petey the writing was on the wall.

I don't think it was the Canucks that initiated the parting of ways. I think Rick was done with this organization after this past season. His in-season and post-season comments were pretty telling in his opinion of which player should have been traded between Pettersson and Miller.
The Canucks do have options available.
I doubt they announce a new coach until after the draft because their roster decisions are going to be very influential in what coaches want to take the reins here.

Yep - Club statement:
“After a very long and thorough process, unfortunately Rick has decided to leave the Vancouver Canucks,” said president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford. “This is very disappointing news, but we respect Rick’s decision to move to a new chapter in his hockey career. We did everything in our power to keep him, but at the end of the day Rick felt he needed a change. He is a good friend, a good coach, and we can’t thank him enough for all he did for our organization. Toc is a stand-up guy, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
