Miller was too much of a problem for Petey.
Can’t wait to see how this plays out.

Dude, after the initial shock you are still wondering why? Ronning's Ghost's post provides the answer.
A beserker who should be good for 20-25 goals and 45-50 points if healthy. A beserker who will keep opposing teams keeping their heads up. A league that loves beserkers, so that if Vancouver's on the wrong side of the playoffs come the deadline, its a tradeable asset -- assuming health.
Is the complaint about helping Edmonton out of their cap situation valid? I don't think so, because I don't think Kane would have cleared waivers. Because above. In other words, Edmonton could have freed themselves from the cap hit -- which is unlike those players the Canucks had to include sweeteners to offload. And it is why Edmonton wasn't going to retain salary, at least not without first testing the hypothesis and putting Kane through waivers.
I am not the loudest on this board for "more assholes" and "more toughness." But it is a plus attribute to add to a need that we all agree exists on the team. I don't think the salary is out of whack. It comes with a risk of destroying the room -- sure -- but there's a decent chance of a payoff if it doesn't. As I've said before, if the Canucks take no chances with upside but the risk of catastrophe, they are a middling team -- fighting for a playoff spot with almost no chance to go further.
And stop it with the "won't sign Suter" thing. Suter isn't looking at a 1 year deal. And he isn't looking for more that the Canucks have left. Adding Granlund or Suter is still very much on the table with the cap space that remains, and moving money out to add something better remains an option.
This isn't the move I would make, but I'm not hating it.
And with all things, moves shouldn't be reviewed in isolation. More is coming, of that I am fairly confident. We will see how this fits with what's being built.

An interesting development that I did not see coming. Basically Podkolzin for Kane. The good, it is only a one year deal. He plays an asshole type game, he can be a productive 50-60 point guy. The bad, we all know they story. Put him on Petey's wing and he will beat the snot our of anyone who runs him. Petey will grow to love him.
Yes Kane has been run off every team he has been on but his skill set is still sought after. His problems with teammates are different than the problems JT had. Hopefully anyway. He is basically Boeser's replacement.
Interesting times.

Miller was a bully.
Kane got bullied.
Big difference.

Don't be so sure about that. How many times did Kane come to anyone's defence in Edmonton???????
Kane is "Me First/Me Always", like a combo of JT and Petey's worst traits.
The only thing that may get through to him is it's a contract year, and no doubt Dan Milstein is in his ear already about where the future Benjamins are going to come from and what that's worth to him to pull an utter character 180 and be a decent human being to anyone besides himself.
Has been and always will be a shitty teammate, and now he's in Vancouver's dressing room.
It's like management is doing a slow-mo roster deconstruction to start over once Quinn walks.

I mean, trying to be positive here, I guess we can now say the Canucks have a "first line."

DeBrusk - Petey - Kane
?
Honestly, if EP40 rebounds, and Kane plays like he is in a contract year, that could be a very good line.

Hard to see Petey rebounding with the thug wannabe in his ear on the ice and in the dressing room.
Remember that story about Foote getting Petey, Quinn and Demmer out to golf to talk a bout players holding eachother accountable while still supporting them to get better?
Yeah... have fun having that kind of conversation with Eastvander. Actually, it would be fun to watch just to see the PoS' reaction.

Miller was in Pettersson's ear because he wanted him to be better, to put in the work, to lead. Eastvander is not going to be in Scooter's ear over that, in fact chances are he would be almost the opposite. I think they would both ride the highs of success (should they have it) but also the lowest of lows when facing adversity.

Eastvander will be in Petey's ear every time he doesn't score or doesn't get the puck or they get scored on. Any time something happens on the ice which damages Eastvander's next contract is going to be Petey's fault and Petey will hear about it.
Eastvander is all about himself. If he has individual success, everything will be fine, no matter the score of the game. As soon as things don't go his way and Petey's centring him, you better believe it will be Petey's fault and he'll hear about it all the way to the bench.

Much of the prospects for the upcoming season hang on EP40 rebounding. I'm not sure I like the chances of that, but suppose for a minute it happens.
The Canucks would then have what Mëds would consider to be -- at least potentially -- an adequate first line. (I think it highly likely that Kane plays like he's in a contract year.) They already have decent 3rd and 4th lines. Suppose whatever they cobble together for a second line is merely slightly below par, and not outright awful.
Then you get to the actual strengths. They have a very good, and surprisingly deep (if enough of the prospects mature) defence. Between 3 potentially/sometimes great goalies, they should be able to get a top 5 season out of 2. Could easily be looking at a Jennings Trophy season.
If the coaching staff figures out how to get the most out of that mix, (yet another massive variable heading into the season), then on paper (where I know the game isn't played) to me, that's a team that could win one, or even two playoff rounds. A couple of lucky breaks and a Cinderella run could take them to the finals.
I'm not the board cheerleader, but it seems to me that historically, those are good enough prospects to keep most of you engaged and enthused. The only cause for dismay I see is that absolutely nothing suggests that they are building towards the kind of roster that could take multiple shots at a Cup, after the fashion of the most recent two season's finalists, but I don't think that is ever happening as long as Frankie is the chairman. So even if all they manage for the rest of the off-season is to re-sign Suter, then -- if all of the many unknowns (but at least possibles) come up positive -- we could be looking at the best kind of Canucks season ownership/management constraints allow.
The only more positive off-season prospects you could really hope for is that the Little Eagles sell the team to a patient, hands-off owner.

Kane coming to teammates rescue? lol. You’re kidding me right? The only person Kane cares about is himself

It's no secret that I don't like Pettersson on this team. Too many character issues to be hanging the "franchise" tag on and expecting him to lead.
I also doubt he rebounds, but if we keep him, I have to hope that he does for the sake of the team I cheer for.
That line is not my ideal line, I just see that the parts would be there to actually be a very good top line IF they all played to their potential.
There is nothing about this team right now that I am enthusiastic about. The only player we have that is worth being excited about is Hughes.....and that's bitter sweet at the moment because the state of this team makes it not unlikely that Hughes will leave as a free agent.

I’m fairly convinced Hughes is testing the UFA waters and will sign to play with his bro’s. Why wouldn’t he? The situation is tricky but we cannot lose an asset like that for nothing. If he goes to market he ain’t signing here.
