My plan A/plan B would be on draft day.
A. Draft a centre
B. Trade Willander for a centre, draft a forward (centre or winger)

I'm not against trading Wilander or EP Jr for a young centre. I'm not against trading EP40 if its a solid deal.
Reef drafting for position got us Virtanen and Olaf. BPA. Trade for need down the road.
That said I'd love to see them nab a young pivot like O'Brien.

I actually see huge upside for EP Jr. I’m ok with trading Willander. He’ll return a top shelf centre.

I know it comes with risks but a D or winger selected could also fail. They have to roll the dice and start filling in the centre position.
I’m not saying drop 10-20 spots and take a wild ass guess. I’m hoping they do their due diligence and pick the right player with the right attitude.

You know Allvin will be drooling over Frondel, but i suspect he'll be gone by the time the Canucks pick. Luckily there are lots of Centers in the Canucks
range.

Hopefully some are Canadian. This team needs an injection of grit on this team.

I'd rather have a left winger that plays for us than a center who busts.
And who knows if we need a center in three or four years anyway. Needs change.

Well, I keep reading here that we should pick for position in the middle of the first round, but I disagree. It's a running theme in the thread.
People say that there's no guarantee that we would have selected Dylan Guenther with the ninth pick we traded away in the OEL deal, even though he was the consensus pick. Drafting for position is exactly how you mess that up. I'm just sayin'.
In fact, if you look up 'drafting for position' in the dictionary, you'll probably find a picture of Olli Juolevi

Yep.
In the first round you take the best player available. The only time you factor position is if the players in question are essentially a wash in regards to talent.

Meh, it's a crap shoot at best and the debate over bpa vs positional needs has been going on for decades.
There is zero% proof the bpa (which is a misnomer in itself as no player has played in the NHL at that point) is guaranteed success.
And good RHD and Centers are harder to come by. Willander was a positional needs pick,looks like aok pick so far.

Anyone paying attention to Gavin McKenna’s recent exploits? He’s looking like a tier above Bedard and Celebrini. Question now is, one that everyone is asking, is he on a level with McDavid? Some seem to think so.

Was something of a nothing burger at the WJC.
However, his WHL numbers this season are staggering.

OJ was the consensus top defenseman prospect at the time
He was far from a reach...at the time
