Ekman-Larsson's list (for now) is believed to include BOS & VAN. Things can always change.
Edmonton is reportedly not on OEL’s list.
Dreger said OEL talks are heating up, too. If Dreger has any credibility left?

Not sure this makes any sense for another left side D-man where the Canucks have cheaper depth, even if Eriksson’s contract goes the other way, which it would have to in order to make this deal work at all. His cap hit is 8,250,000 for 7 more years. The Canucks have Hughes, Rathbone, Juolevi, Edler, and Benn on the left side. Arizona is dumping salary and would probably want a cost controlled D man back, like Rathbone, among other assets. If he played on the right side it would make more sense.

Arizona won’t mind cap hit coming their way, but they have no real dollars to spend. It would be something like:
Hoglander, Rathbone, Eriksson, and picks for OEL. Not sure I’d make that deal.
I would imagine that one of our young D man, Joulevi(?) would have to be going that way too. Loui absolutely has to go. Loui (cap dump), JV and OJ ++++ for OEL?

Just not sure if it makes any sense for Van to do this.

Yeah, unless we are dumping Louise salary, I can’t see this happening.

That tweet has got me thinking, would you do this: JV, Loui (0% retained), one of our young D man and 2021 1st for OEL?

If we got him, I imagine it would look something like this, again, not sure I would. Can OEL play the right side? Tanev replacement maybe?

Their main objective is cut the fat off their salary and rebuild.

For their rebuild, AZ no doubt would want Juolevi for LD to start off, and he's ready to play this upcoming season.

Eriksson contract setup is actually a blessing in that his salary is really low vs cap hit.

OEL salary is 8M, 10.5M, 10.5M, 10.5M, 8M, 5.25M, 5.25M
Eriksson salary is 1M, 4M (done)

Canucks add some other young pieces whatever Bill Armstrong seems fit to help their cause.

Ferland? Just to make the cap work? Or are you just throwing shite out there?

1 thing I don't get from a Van perspective is that you have to think, both Hughes and Petey will command around 9mil each after next season, that is a lot of cap to take on right now even if we get rid of Eriksson cap hit.

The Yotes would be looking for top end talent from us if they were to move OEL. The conversation would start with Boeser, OJ and a 2021 First. We would probably also have to include Erikson to make the numbers work (and to sign Markstrom/Toffoli etc.) - so to take that on, they would like need JV, or more picks.

No way I'd do that. Offer a bag of pucks and call it day.

Well with OEL's NMC, AZ doesn't have much options to bargain with, so that hampers things a bit.

You're certainly right SKYO - and their internal cap pushing out the 8 million dollar man, but I'm still sure a rookie GM will not trade his best player for a bag of pucks (Louie, Ferland, Sutter whatever)

Hard no if Boeser involved. That is a lot of cash off their books taking OEL. That is their motivation. My thinking is the new GM is under orders to reduce salaries to the minimum. And OEL is handcuffing them like Kesler handcuffed the Canucks with his NTC. Positionally OEL makes no sense, the Canucks have Hughes as a number one left side D already, so it has to be a sweet deal to make it worth Benning’s while. It would have to include Loui and other parts that are not too major, or you let Boston get him. His cap hit going forward is a problem, so you wouldn’t give up too much to take that on, and Arizona is not going to retain salary when they are trying to get rid of it.

Not surprised Canucks would be on Ekman-Larsson’s trade list. Great city, emerging team, history w Swedes. What would be surprising is Canucks taking on 29 yo who is not a top-20 NHL d-man for 7 more yrs at 8.25M. They’ve got enough financial stress. #saveyourmoney

I don't know why the Canucks would be interested. I'm sure all those minus numbers on his stats would not have been that high on a better team.
So he says Van is a place he'd take a trade to. So much risk for the Canucks. We don't have enough "sure thing" young talent to make a deal that would work for them We have pricy dead weight though. Too risky, too weathered a player for a Canuck team still building.

having said that, if Tanev doesn't get signed, I wouldn't have a problem checking out Barrie this time. Thought he was too small but wth.

You think so? I doubt Boeser is movable for a 30-year old LD.

I think it'd be more like OJ or Rathbone, Virtanen, Loui, and a 1st. The cap numbers almost work out (if you assume Jake would re-sign at $2.5 at least). The Yotes get cheap cap-space dollars with Loui, and a younger up-and-coming LD.

The market for OEL will be small, so that'll keep his price low.

But even still, unless Loui goes the other way I don't see this making sense. But what a left-side D we'd have - Hughes, OEL, and Edler. I guess the one nice thing is we trade from a position of strength - middle-six wingers and LD.

A big no OEL. His game is declining fast and makes stupid money. Cap hit is $8.25 million until he’s 36, 6 more years. I’d rather resign Tanev at substantially lower dollars. The trade moves the needle slightly if the Yotes take some major contracts off our hands. At his, term in contract, and cap just stay the fuck away
