Took the kid camping for a couple of nights. We got the tent set up, boat in the water and the first fish hooks hits the lake as someone on shore calls out, "does anyone have communication with town, there has been a fatality."

I had no cell service there, I'm not an embalmer, may as well keep fishing.

Fucking weird, woman dies of a heart attack, husband won't go anywhere. Wants the cops to come 3hrs from town into the middle of fucking nowhere, 1.5hrs down a shit old logging road to a forestry campsite. Someone managed to get a call into 911at ~5:30pm, cops arrive at 9:30pm, tell the guy to pack his campsite up and drive to town. The idiot could have at least driven 1.5hrs to pavement and met the cops there. Would have freed up a primo campsite.

If the rotting corpse had been there in the morning I would have been cutting it up for bait.

Beirut story is crazy.

2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate has been sitting in a warehouse in the harbour since 2014. It was originally on a Russian cargo ship destined for Mocambique, but somehow ended up in Lebanon where the authorities seized the cargo and arrested the crew. Then it has just been sitting there, despite several warnings from harbour security that it constituted a hazard.

Then now there was a fire nearby that spread to the warehouse and .... KA - BOOM!

More than 160 dead, thousands injured, still at least 60 people missing, windows shattered several kilometres away, and the harbour being centrally located... three hospitals were destroyed, right when they needed them the most, and some 300,000 people have been rendered homeless!

Adding insult to injury, most food in Lebanon is imported, and most imports arrive at and are warehoused at the main harbour in Beirut. The one that blew up. All their grain is gone. The country will run out of flour within weeks, and importing new food is tricky, BECAUSE THE MAIN HARBOUR AND ALL THE WAREHOUSES ARE GONE!

It’s a teeny weeny country, just some 10,450 km2, so roughly two Prince Edward Islands, with 4 million people, but they are also harbouring more than a million refugees from Syria, which was already putting a lot of strain on their economy, that also hasn’t been able to bounce back since the prolonged civil war they had in the 70’s and 80’s.... and right now they’re in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic.

So, to sum it all up - they’re fucked.
