Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
I can't imagine why Markstrom would have any more value to them than us - they signed Berra to a three year deal before he ever played a game for them so you have to think they feel strongly about him, and with Varlamov locked up at nearly $6m for even longer I can't see why they'd give up assets for a guy whose most recent NHL action was proof he needs to rebuild his game - only to use him as a temporary stopgap.
edit: as for Kesler.. he's an impact player on a big money deal who did everything but threaten to hold out and then provided a two team trade list (both teams being conference rivals). I don't think it sets any kind of precedent as to what the team will do with a player that they can move at their leisure.

They are now in desperation mode trying to find a good starter, who can then be a good back up when Varly gets back. I wonder what we could get for Lack? Do we want to go there? They are said to be looking hard at Vokoun.
No firm timeline yet but it's the fact they have both gone down to injuries. Book un would be a good stop gap. I could see Lack moving but Bera plus would have to be coming back. They wouldn't need both Lack and Bera.
I could see Benning making a move like that, they get Bera, call up Markstrom until Bera is back, and add another piece. I can!t see the AV's making the deal UNLESS both injuries are significant. Let's face it, if both are out for a couple of weeks or longer they could find themselves bottoming out early.

Doc, what are you even talking about? Now you're quoting HW & Elliotte Friedman as if I said those things. ...that other thing I posted tongue In cheek to show Vader how goofy his example was ...then I offered to buy you a drink...
I just can't be responsible for the opinions & musings of HW & Friedman, certainly not Vader.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
LA kings D Slava Voynov has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL, from all club activities, as a result of an arrest for domestic violence. The NHL is investigating. Apparently he accompanied a woman, presumably wife or girlfriend to the hospital to receive medical treatment. Hospital staff called the police as they suspected he was the one to beat her up.
Early days of the police investigation.
LA Kings released statement saying they are in full support of the NHL decision.
He will remain suspended until all investigations are complete. If charges stick, and depending upon the seriousness, he could remain suspended pending the outcome.
His cap still counts against the cap. Kings down to 5 D with just under $500,000 in cap space.

Has to.
The lad continues to be paid.
From ESPN:
"These developments are of great concern to our organization," the Kings said in a statement. "We support the NHL's decision to suspend Slava Voynov indefinitely during this process, and we will continue to take appropriate action as the legal proceedings and the investigation by the NHL take their course."
Voynov's lawyer, Craig Renetzky, declined to divulge any further details about the case but stressed that charges have not yet been filed.
"It's very early in the stages and no charges have been filed," Renetzky told ESPN.com when reached by phone Monday afternoon. "That doesn't mean charges will be filed or are warranted in this case. We're conducting our own investigation to determine what happened."
The suspension was announced by the NHL after it consulted with the NHL Players Association. The collective bargaining agreement between the league and its players says that, during a criminal investigation, "the League may suspend the Player pending the League's formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League."
Reached by telephone Monday morning, Voynov's agent, Rolland Hedges, declined to comment about the situation.
"I'm sorry, I really can't," he told ESPN.com.
Hedges said he was working on gathering more information about the situation.
Voynov will continue to be paid during the suspension. He has two assists in six games this season -- his fourth with the Kings. Voynov is 24.

They have 14 forwards on the roster including Trevor Lewis.Hockey Widow wrote: Voynov will remain suspended until all investigations are complete. If charges stick, and depending upon the seriousness, he could remain suspended pending the outcome.

I'll bet Lewis ($1,525m cap hit) goes from the IR to the LTIR
... enabling the Kings to bring up defenseman Jeff Schultz ($850K cap hit).

Do they have any forwards that are waiver exempt and why can't we play then now?Strangelove wrote:They have 14 forwards on the roster including Trevor Lewis.Hockey Widow wrote: Voynov will remain suspended until all investigations are complete.
